I graduated in 1992 with a degree in Applied Mathematics.
And the first thing everyone wanted to know was: so what are you going to do with that?
So I became an actuary. It made sense on paper. It checked all the boxes. And I spent the next 20 years doing something that rarely lit me up from the inside. (I admit - I loved the complicated spreadsheets and formulas but not so much analyzing retiree medical benefits!)
I didn't even know that doing something you enjoyed was a thing you were supposed to consider. Wasn't a job just a job?
This clip is from a conversation I had this week with my co-host, Annika, on the Two Women, One Heart podcast, and it hit close to home — because my son just graduated from college and I wanted him to hear what I wish someone had told me at 22.
