With back-to-school days upon us, here are some important safety tips to remember as you return to school this fall:

Be Aware of Your Surroundings:
- Stay distraction-free: Avoid wearing headphones or being buried in your phone while walking across campus.
- Maintain alertness: Pay attention to your surroundings, especially when traveling alone.
- Trust your instincts: If something feels off, move immediately to a populated, well-lit area.

Travel Smart:
- Use designated paths: Stick to clearly marked, well-lit walkways, especially at night.
- Use the buddy system: Walk with friends or classmates, or use campus safety escorts whenever possible.
- Plan your route ahead: Know your destination and identify the safest paths to get there.

Vehicle & Bike Safety:
- Park in well-lit areas: Choose high-visibility parking lots or garages whenever possible.
- Lock up consistently: Always lock your vehicle doors and windows, and keep valuables hidden from view.
- Secure your bike: Use a heavy-duty U-lock to secure both the frame and wheels to a designated bike rack. Wear your helmet!
- Make sure you have a designated driver if alcohol is involved.

Stay Alert. Stay Safe. Look Out for One Another

Q & A
How do I know what medical expenses are covered under my no-fault benefits?
Your medical coverage is governed by the Michigan Auto No-Fault law. No-fault benefits cover reasonably necessary medical treatment related to injuries from your auto accident.
Examples include:
- Hospital and emergency room visits
- Home Health and post-acute care
- Follow-up doctor appointments
- X-rays, MRIs, and other tests
- Needed Surgery
- Rehabilitation Therapies
- Prescription medications
- Medical equipment and supplies
- Needed Home Modifications
- Transportation to and from medical
appointments
- Back to school and work assistance

Are there coverage limits?
Yes. Medical benefits are limited to the coverage amount chosen for your policy. Once that limit is reached, additional medical expenses may not be covered by no-fault benefits.

Will all medical bills be covered?
Medical expenses related to your car accident should be covered. They must:
- Be related to the accident
- Be medically necessary
- Be ordered by a physician.

How can I check my coverage?
You can ask your Ambrose Case Manager to review your insurance policy and contact your insurance company with questions regarding coverage.

According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, studies show that long-term exposure to bright sunlight may increase the risk of cataracts and growths on the eye, including cancer. UV rays reflected off sand and water can cause eyes to sunburn, potentially resulting in temporary blindness in just a few hours. Especially during these summer months, we are reminded of the importance of shielding eyes from the sun’s harmful rays with 100% UV blocking sunglasses and broad-brimmed hats.

In addition to being well hydrated in these warm summer months, here are a few more ideas on how to Beat the Heat:

- Wear loose, light colored clothing made of breathable fabrics like cotton to allow sweat to evaporate.
- Use sunscreen to help block harmful UV rays while keeping you cooler.
- Use fans in the home to circulate cooler air.
- Keep blinds or curtains closed to reduce the heat.
- Apply damp cloths to pulse points, soak your feet in water or use cooling mats to help lower the core temperature.
- Use a styrofoam cooler.
- If you don’t have access to air conditioning, contact your Case Manager for a list of cooling centers in your area.

With the warm temperatures we're experiencing in Michigan, it's important to stay hydrated and be aware of the signs of dehydration. If you're feeling thirsty or notice a dry mouth, reach for your favorite water bottle and drink plenty of fluids to help maintain proper hydration.
