Tattoo by Laura. The Tristram's storm petrel, or 'akihike'ehi'ale in Hawaiian, is a small seafaring bird that is found here in Hawaii, and is considered near threatened. It spends most of its life at sea, and only comes on land to nest.
Conservation efforts have helped to re-establish successful nesting sites in protected areas here on Oahu.
I made this tattoo on one of the wildlife biologists who is working to restore seabird nesting habitats. The Tristram storm petrel is her favorite bird!
