When I think of a well regulated nervous system, the word that comes to mind is RESILIENCE.
Teaching your body what it's like to be in rest and digest is important, but you can't stay there all the time.
Life happens. You have work, family, friends. Love, loss, anxiety, excitement, happiness, etc.
Knowing how to be present in your body, and get through the good and the bad is essential.
Resiliency is not about enduring constant stress, but your body's ability to shift from stress to recovery.
For a lot of people, getting into that rest and digest state is hard. It can take some time for it to go from a conscious effort to something your body does with ease.
Massage can be a wonderful tool to help take you from a state of stress and hypervigilance,
to a place of rest and replenish.
