I created this page with the intent of sharing things that others might find useful or inspiring in their own journey towards living a life well-lived. This page was created as an outlet to share information that might be helpful, motivating, or inspiring to anyone looking to make some healthier lifestyle changes in their own lives. Our world is facing an epidemic of chronic illness and conditions
, and approximately 80% or more of those conditions can be directly linked to unhealthy lifestyle behaviors. Through my own health and well-being journey, I have discovered the power of the 6 pillars of Lifestyle Medicine: whole food, plant-forward eating; restorative sleep; positive social connection; physical activity; stress reduction; and avoidance of risky substances. I workout often, but my eating habits were pretty on par with most Americans: too much processed food, not enough fruits, veggies, and whole grains. It took my own medical issue to figuratively slap me in the face and make me take a hard look at my own lifestyle behaviors. Now that I've discovered the power of lifestyle medicine, I've been working hard to incorporate smarter and healthier habits into my life and the life of my family, so that maybe we can all live life well for many years to come! I still have a lot to learn, and I definitely have a long way to go, but you have to start somewhere, right? I hope that the things I learn along the way during my own journey might encourage or inspire others to either make healthy new changes, or motivate them to keep up the hard work. After all, life is hard, being healthy is hard, and we could all use a little help with the process! About me: I'm a part-time certified physician associate currently practicing in Urology, also board-certified in lifestyle medicine. I'm also a group fitness and yoga instructor, and I teach some classes locally (barre, prenatal yoga, gentle yoga). My husband pokes fun that I like to collect certifications, which is true, but I love learning and adding to my toolbox! (Plus, one day I hope it will all culminate with an amazing career opportunity I never knew I needed). My certifications include: Diplomate of ACLM (lifestyle medicine); Wellcoaches Health and Well-being Coach; NCCA Certified Personal Trainer; ACE Group Fitness Instructor; 200-RYT yoga instructor; Fit4Mom pre/postnatal certification; certificate in children's yoga; Barre Above; Pumped Up Strength; Human Reformer; Full Plate Living Facilitator certification... and more to come!
