ACAT is out and about in our communities!

Our ACAT team at both sites had a busy day connecting with our community partners and having some fall fun! 🧡

📍Hazard: We teamed up with the Perry County Senior Center and some of our Perry County Central High School Pre-ETS students for a fun, fall-themed activity! The students and senior citizens put their creativity and skills to work by building catapults and launching marshmallow pumpkins into cups. 🎃 Each team competed to see who could land the most pumpkins in their cups, with the winning team taking home a special 3D-printed prize!

📍Morehead: Our team collaborated with Rowan County Schools at the Partners in Possibilities event, connecting with others and continuing to build meaningful community partnerships.

We are grateful for opportunities like these to engage with our communities, support our students, and demonstrate how creativity, collaboration, and assistive technology can bring people together! 💙

It’s been a busy start to the week at ACAT Hazard!

Yesterday, we met with our CARAT-TOP students as they began laying out their plans for the toys and games their groups selected to adapt. We’re excited to see their creativity and ideas take shape! 🧸🛠️

Today, we had the opportunity to bring some of our Perry County Central High School students, most of whom also participate in our Pre-ETS program, along with us to the Perry County Senior Center. The students enjoyed spending time with the seniors while participating in a fun fall activity making pumpkin suncatchers!🎃☀️

At ACAT, we love creating opportunities that bring together students, community members, and individuals of all abilities. These experiences provide meaningful connections, hands-on learning, and plenty of fun along the way!

We would like to give a huge shoutout to the students for their awesome volunteer skills they showed today!

Another great day of learning, creating, and connecting at ACAT!

Today’s theme at ACAT: STUDENTS!

While our Hazard site was busy engaging with high school students (see our previous post), our Morehead site welcomed Physician Assistant (PA) students from the University of Kentucky’s Morehead-based program!

The students received a tour of ACAT Morehead, learned more about our services and resources, and participated in a discussion about ways they can get involved with ACAT. We also had the opportunity to answer their questions.

We are excited about the opportunity to collaborate with these future healthcare professionals and look forward to building a strong partnership moving forward!

Today, our Perry County Central High School Pre-ETS students took a trip to the Disability Resource Center in Hazard, Kentucky! 🎓✨

During the visit, students learned about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and worked on key goal-setting skills—breaking down big ambitions for the school year into actionable weekly and daily targets. 🎯

To wrap up a great visit, everyone got creative with a fun fall activity before heading back to school! 🎨🍂

CARAT-TOP is in full swing!

Our CARAT-TOP students are already diving into their projects as we enter Week 2 of the semester!

Yesterday, students worked in groups to search for toys and games they would like to adapt for children with disabilities. Each group had to narrow down their ideas and select their Top 3 choices.

After plenty of searching, brainstorming, and discussion, each group had the opportunity to share their findings and ideas with everyone.
We are so impressed with the creativity, collaboration, and thoughtful ideas our students are bringing to the program!

Great work, everyone! We can’t wait to see which ideas make it from concept to creation!

ACAT at APTA-KY Conference! 🎤♿️

Today, our ACAT Director and Manager had the opportunity to present at the APTA-KY Conference at Bellarmine University! We were honored to share our “One Center, Two Sites” model and discuss how increased access to durable medical equipment (DME) and assistive technology can enhance independence, participation, and quality of life for individuals with disabilities.

The presentation sparked lots of great questions, meaningful conversations, and discussion about how we can continue expanding access to assistive technology and resources across our communities.

We are incredibly thankful for the opportunity to share ACAT’s programs, partnerships, and vision with others who are passionate about improving the lives of individuals with disabilities.

Thank you to APTA-KY and Bellarmine University for inviting us to be part of this important conversation!

Morehead, Hazard, and surrounding areas: Our equipment rooms are stocked and ready to serve our community! ♿️

Thanks to our amazing donors, ACAT Morehead and ACAT Hazard have a variety of adult and pediatric durable medical equipment available at no cost to individuals who need it. Donated equipment is thoroughly cleaned, inspected, and refurbished for safe use before being made available.

Both sites offer DME such as walkers, wheelchairs, bedside commodes, shower equipment, and more. ACAT also offers individual assistive technology consultations and an AT loan locker, giving individuals the opportunity to try devices and find solutions that best meet their needs.

**CARAT-TOP Fall 2026 is officially underway!**

Yesterday, the ACAT team kicked off our Fall 2026 CARAT-TOP cohort at Perry County Central High School!

We are excited to have 20 students participating this semester and can’t wait to see their creativity, innovation, and passion come to life as they work through their team projects!

We’re looking forward to an incredible semester and can’t wait to see what these students create!
