One of the amazing benefits of challenging myself to run a half marathon in all 50 states is the chance to visit places I would never have gone otherwise. I've had many layovers at DTW, but never left the airport. Detroit is a surprisingly beautiful city. Let the begin!

I'm still recovering from Sydney, but I had the pleasure of taking an almost 3 mile spiritual walk around Spooner Lake this morning with my wonderful community. It's good to be home.

It's Medal Monday!

You would think after all the scenic pictures I took this week I would have a cool medal photo in an iconic Sydney locale. I was so tired last night Tami Rhoads Segal had to push me into the shower. I couldn't even make it to the post race celebration. The best I could manage is a photo in the hallway of our hotel before leaving for the airport first thing this morning. If I'm going to sleep all day (and I know I will) I figure I might as well multitask and make my way home at the same time.

This was my first marathon after being diagnosed with MS. I didn't know if my body would be able to keep going for the full distance as I haven't even been awake for 12 consecutive hours in last 3 years.
Yesterday I not only had to be awake from 4am to 4pm, but I was running/walking for 7 consecutive hours during that time. But I did it! I may have wobbled several times, but I didn't fall down! I maintained my planned slow but steady pace of 15:30 the whole race and finished just 200 seconds before the 7 hour cut off. I may have slowed down (A LOT) after being diagnosed, but I'm still going.

I was too nervous at the start and too tired and the end to take any pictures. Thanks Tami Rhoads Segal for being there at the start and (almost) finish and for taking pictures. This is my first marathon post MS diagnosis. I've slowed down a LOT but I am so grateful to have finished. I even had 3 minutes to spare! (Whew!)
