Celiac Community Foundation of Northern California

Celiac Community Foundation of Northern California Support, Education and Advocacy for the Gluten-Free Community In 2005, Stanford University licensed the technology to Alvine Pharmaceuticals.

The Celiac Community Foundation of Northern California originated in two separate nonprofit organizations that merged in 2012. The Celiac Sprue Research Foundation (CSRF) was founded as a nonprofit public charity in 2002 by Stanford Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Chaitan Khosla, in collaboration with Gary Gray, M.D., Professor Emeritus of Medicine, and others in the Stanford commu

nity, in an effort to find a drug therapy for celiac disease. In 2007, CSRF began sponsoring Camp Celiac in cooperation with The Taylor Family Foundation, the YMCA, and the East Bay Regional Parks District. As it was no longer needed to support the university’s research, but had developed an important community role, the Celiac Sprue Research Foundation was transferred to the community under new leadership in early 2012. Renamed as the Celiac Community Foundation of Northern California (CCFNC), it continues to administer Camp Celiac. At the time it was transferred to the community, CCFNC merged with North Bay Celiacs, a nonprofit founded by Jennifer Iscol in 2007. The Celiac Community Foundation of Northern California collaborates with the Celiac Disease Foundation on education, awareness and advocacy.

Exciting news and a call for clinical trial volunteers!

Stanford researchers have developed an investigational drug called HB-2121, designed to detect celiac disease without requiring gluten consumption. In the long run, it may also become an important tool for monitoring disease and evaluating new treatments.

I'm co-hosting a live webinar with Stanford physician scientists Nielsen Fernandez-Becker, MD, PhD, and Nasim Khavari, MD, MPH, about the new study on Monday, September 29, at 9am PDT.

If you are interested but not sure you can make it, register and you’ll receive the recording afterward.

The study is looking for volunteers (both people with celiac disease and healthy individuals without the condition) and includes $400 compensation. The study requires in-person clinic visits to Stanford and will offer hotel accommodations for the night before and after dosing for out-of-area participants.

This is the first human trial for this drug agent. I'm looking forward to seeing where this exciting research leads.

Camper Kendall Samuelson and her family created a Little Caesar’s fundraiser “to help keep Camp Celiac going for years to come!”

There are a variety of options, including a gluten-free pepperoni pizza kit that is made in a dedicated facility and shipped frozen to your home.

They’ve already sold 36 kits and are nearly halfway to their goal!

You can buy a kit between now and March 31, when the fundraiser will conclude.

Thanks to the Samuelson family and to everyone who is participating!

Webinar: How to Safely Choose and Attend Summer Camps with Celiac Disease - Thursday, June 27, 5-6 PM Pacific Time - FREE

Our foundation is cohosting a Stanford IBD & Celiac Disease Center community education webinar for parents choosing a summer camp for children with celiac disease or other gluten-related disorders. I am co-presenting with our Camp Celiac director Molly Stone, BSN, RN, and the moderator is Neha Shah, MPH, RD. We offer lots of tips and questions to ask to help families evaluate if a camp is safe and fits their needs, plus plenty of Q&A.
