For mild tension bumps, I generally recommend products that soothe the skin rather than heavy oils. Some oils may help with dryness, but they won't relieve the underlying tension that's causing the bumps.
Here are my recommendations:
🥇 1. Aloe Vera Gel (My Top Recommendation)
Helps calm irritated skin.
Provides cooling relief.
Non-greasy and easy to apply.
Great for mild redness and tenderness.
🥈 2. Tea Tree Oil (Diluted Only)
May help keep the scalp clean because it has antimicrobial properties.
Can be soothing for some people.
Never apply it directly to the scalp. Mix 2–3 drops with 1 tablespoon of a carrier oil such as jojoba or grapeseed oil.
🥉 3. Jojoba Oil
Lightweight and similar to the scalp's natural oils.
Helps moisturize dry, irritated skin without feeling heavy.
A good option if the scalp feels dry around the bumps.
4. Coconut Oil
Can help moisturize and reduce friction on dry hair.
However, it's not my first choice for irritated bumps because it's a heavier oil and may not be ideal if the bumps are inflamed or resemble pimples.
