Behind the Care: Hands-On Training 💜

I believe quality care starts with preparation.

Today, one of our newest caregivers had the opportunity to receive hands-on training with one of our clients, learning the importance of proper equipment use, safe transfers, patience, and individualized care.

As a business owner, it’s important to me that my caregivers feel confident, supported, and prepared to meet each client’s unique needs.

Because care is more than showing up. It’s about being prepared for the people who trust us.

Behind every business is someone making decisions that people don’t always see.

The conversations, the responsibilities, the unexpected challenges, and the commitment to showing up even when there’s a lot happening behind the scenes.

🧠 Reflection

Dementia Dimensions | Friday Reflection

This week we talked about why routines matter in dementia care.

And one of my biggest takeaways is that routine isn’t just about keeping someone on a schedule.

It’s about creating familiarity, comfort, and predictability when parts of their world may already feel confusing.

But I’m also learning that person-centered care means finding a balance.

We want structure without taking away every choice.

We want consistency without becoming so rigid that we forget we’re caring for an individual.

And we want to help without automatically taking over everything a person can still do for themselves.

Sometimes the smallest things—a familiar song, their usual morning routine, a favorite activity, or simply knowing what comes next—can make a difference.

Learn the person, not just the diagnosis. 💙

That’s one lesson that continues to follow me throughout this entire journey.

🧠 Routine Without Taking Away Independence

Here’s something else I’m learning:

Having a routine doesn’t mean taking away someone’s choices.

We can create structure while still allowing a person living with dementia to participate in their own life.

Instead of saying:

“You’re wearing this today.”

Maybe offer two appropriate choices.

Instead of automatically doing everything for them, give them an opportunity to do what they can safely do on their own.

And when possible, include activities they already know and enjoy.

That’s something I keep coming back to throughout my CDP journey:

Support doesn’t always mean taking over.

A routine should help someone feel safe and supported—not make them feel like they no longer have a voice.

Even as abilities change, there may still be opportunities for choice, participation, and independence.

We just may have to adjust how we offer them. 💙

Growth looks different when you’re intentional.

Within the last month, Divinity Care has welcomed a new client and a new caregiver to our family. I’m grateful to see the business continuing to grow, but I’m also very strategic about that growth.

I don’t hire just to build a large team. I bring caregivers on based on the needs of our clientele, the services being provided, and the right fit for each client. Every caregiver may not be the right fit for every client, and every client may not be the right fit for Divinity Care and that’s okay.

For me, it will always be quality over quantity and personal, not transactional. 💙

Slow, intentional, meaningful growth. That’s the goal. 🌱
