We recently celebrated Borealis Health, PLLC with a ribbon cutting to and their expansion of accessible, patient centered mental health services in Grand Rapids, MN.

Owner Dr. Jennie J. Bata, APRN, DNP, FNP C, PMHNP C, provides an integrative model of care that recognizes the essential connection between physical and mental wellbeing. With dual board certification (family practice/psychiatry) and extensive clinical experience, Jennie offers comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, ADHD testing, medication genetic testing, hormonal assessments and whole person support tailored to each individual's unique needs.

Jennie brings more than twenty years of diverse healthcare experience, including primary care, psychiatric care, long term care, and specialized work with autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities. After relocating to Northern Minnesota, she founded Borealis Health to meet the region’s growing need for compassionate, integrative mental health services delivered in a respectful and confidential environment. The clinic looks forward to serving individuals and families across the Grand Rapids area and contributing to a healthier, more resilient community.

Up to 90% of the visible aging of the face is caused by sun exposure, making sunscreen the single most important anti-aging product you can use. In fact, from a skin health and aging perspective, sunscreen is one of the most biologically active ingredients in any skincare regimen.

While the American Academy of Dermatology recommends using a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to help prevent skin cancer, research has shown that even an SPF of 15 can significantly slow the signs of skin aging.

In one landmark study, nearly 900 adults were followed for more than four years and randomized to either daily sunscreen use or their usual discretionary use. By the end of the study, participants instructed to wear sunscreen daily showed significantly less skin aging—and remarkably, no detectable increase in skin aging over the 4.5-year study period.

Congratulations to Lori Robertson on the publication of her article in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology! 🎉

I had the privilege of spending two years in a training program with Lori and can personally attest to her knowledge, professionalism, and dedication to advancing the field of aesthetic medicine. Her article highlights a topic I feel strongly about—the importance of a solid foundation in primary or acute care before transitioning into aesthetics.

Before entering aesthetic medicine, I worked as an ICU nurse and then spent 10 years practicing as a family nurse practitioner. Those experiences taught me how to assess the whole patient, recognize subtle red flags, manage complex medical histories, and prioritize patient safety. While aesthetic treatments focus on helping patients look and feel their best, they are still medical procedures that require sound clinical judgment and a deep understanding of health and disease.

Aesthetic medicine is at its best when artistry is supported by experience, critical thinking, and a commitment to patient safety. Thank you, Lori, for continuing to elevate our profession through education and leadership. 💙

Be careful where you get your information when it comes to your skin treatment plan. Tik Tok is there to sell you something, I’ve actually been a bit more impressed with the treatment plans patients have put together using AI which seems to take into account more of the nuances necessary for a comprehensive treatment plan.
