Indian pink getting ready!

I picked at least 5 lbs of peaches today. No, they aren't ripe, but they do need to be thinned. They'll likely get thinned again before picking. Thinning means you get bigger, healthier peaches, and it reduces the weight on the branches, which are suseptible to breaking. Broken branches = no peaches = sad Dawn. I remind myself this while thinning.

The Solomons Seal is in bloom, like little bells underneath. If you don't know they're there, you'll miss them. It's my favorite native, in part because it showed up on its own and is spreading happily, and in part because it's a really elegant, graceful plant. Just beautiful.

I'm going to need to thin these soon.

3 years ago, I planted yellow raspberries. 2 years ago, I mostly got rid of the invasive things living in this part of the yard. There were a few (native) ferns which I wasn't really precious with. Now I have lots of ferns and probably need to find a new home for the raspberries which I can't even see anymore.

I finally got last week's native plant sale purchases in the ground. 3 wild ginger and 2 bishop's cap. 2 of the ginger were blooming! It's not a showy flower hidden under the leaves, but they are a full shade plant, and that's exactly what I need in my woodland backyard!

I'm back from the native plant sale with this impulse buy. I went for wild ginger and blood root. There were a number of sun plants I wanted, but I've done no clearing this spring and decided not to torture myself. Shade lovers only this time. I picked up 3 wild ginger and 2 bishop's cap. I'm impressed with the restraint I showed.
