Our "Cheese" Litter is beginning an important stage of early development, as their senses continue to develop and they become more aware of the world around them.

At this age the puppies eyes and ears are continuing to develop and they are beginning to move with more coordination.

Litter care volunteers like, Mara and Beth, are supporting this stage through gentle handling, short back-settling practice, and introductions to new and enriching textures and objects. These early experiences help the puppies become more comfortable with routine care and gradual changes in their environment.

Our dedicated volunteers also help maintain a clean, enriching space where the puppies can continue to explore and grow during this important stage.

Three times a year, EENP holds “leash ceremonies” at each of the three prisons we partner with through our At Both Ends of the Leash (ABEL) program. Along with celebrating our ABEL Trainers, these ceremonies mark an important transition in our pups training, celebrating puppies moving beyond their “young puppy” phase and entering ABEL, as well as dogs leaving ABEL to prepare for placement with a client as fully trained service dogs.

More than half of our young puppies advancing to the next stage of training in the ABEL program this May have spent the past several months being raised by incredibly dedicated Duke University students, along with one UNC student, through our partnership with .

Between school and extracurricular activities, these students have dedicated countless hours to training and caring for these puppies while also attending weekly Young Puppy Training classes and various community events, providing each puppy with valuable socialization experiences. As a result of these student volunteers' dedication and time, each of these puppies has been given an amazing foundation for their future success as a life changing service dog.

We’re deeply grateful for the time, energy, and commitment Alea, Chapman, Elizabeth, and Leah devoted to Olive, Willow, Cypress, and Douglas, and cannot wait to celebrate the next chapter in these puppies' journeys.

Thank you, Duke Canine Cognition for your unwavering support for our puppies, young puppy trainers, and our mission – and for connecting EENP with wonderful student volunteers! 💙

A huge thank you to All About Eyes Veterinary Clinic for providing ACVO eye clinic exams for more than 35 of our service dogs in training! 🐾💙

These specialized eye exams play an important role, making sure EENP pups are ready for future medical alert and mobility assistance service work and help support long successful partnerships with their future handlers.Healthy vision ensures service dogs can safely navigate environments, respond to medical needs, support mobility, and stay focused in everyday situations.

We are so grateful to the veterinarians and staff who take the time to carefully examine each pup and support them on their journey to becoming life changing partners. Because of their dedication, these dogs are one step closer to providing independence, safety, and companionship to their future handlers.

A special thank you as well to our incredible transport volunteers who took hours out of their day to safely get each pup to and from their appointments. Your support makes these exams possible and supports the longevity and success of future EENP service dog teams.

Thank you
All About Eyes Veterinary Ophthalmology Clinic for helping our pups and the people who will one day rely on them see a brighter future. ✨

During their free time, EENP pups enjoy running through fields, splashing in lakes, and carrying the biggest stick they can find 🌳🌷

It may look like pure fun, but providing these service dogs in training with opportunities to play, explore, and train outdoors builds confidence, helping them feel secure and positive in new environments. Outdoor exploration also supports their mental well being by providing enrichment through new sights, sounds, and scents that keeps them engaged in learning.

These experiences teach them how to stay calm, adaptable, and focused in new situations so they can show up reliably for their future handlers. At EENP, we're feeling especially grateful this Earth Day for the outdoor spaces that provide these experiences and help shape these incredible service dogs in training, into life-changing partners 🌎

This past Sunday we had our annual volunteer party, where we had the opportunity to celebrate the driving force behind our mission and impact -- our volunteer community.

We are so lucky to be surrounded and supported by such passionate, dedicated, and inspiring people. Just to give you an idea of the impact our volunteers have made in the past year, here are a few numbers they made possible:

💫 6,948 hours of pup care provided by our puppy caregivers
✨ 2,357 hours completed by littercare volunteers
🌟 22 dogs transported to/from their neuter/spay appointment
💫 34 young puppy trainers, raising 28 EENP pups

Pawsitive vibes all around 🐾💙

Yesterday at NCCU's Pawsitive Vibes event, our pups and volunteers showed up to bring comfort, ease exam stress, and share how to get involved with our amazing community.

EENP dogs truly have a superpower: bringing smiles to everyone they meet. NCCU students gave that love right back with plenty of pats and generous toy donations!

We're so grateful to NCCU for the invitation, to our dedicated volunteers, and to our incredible pups for spreading joy wherever they go. ✨

Alea, a UNC student and one of our amazing puppy raisers, was recently featured for her experience as a volunteer young puppy trainer working with EENP pup Olive through Duke Puppy Kindergarten.

Students like Alea, alongside our YPT's at Duke, help build the skills EENP pups need to become service dogs.

We're grateful for Alea, our partnership with , and for the time, care, and dedication all of our YPT's bring to every pup they raise — whether they cheer for Carolina or Duke.💙
