Let’s say the quiet part out loud.

Wrinkles don’t start in your mirror.
They start in your metabolism.

Spikes in blood sugar =
🔥 Inflammation
🔥 Collagen breakdown
🔥 Glycation (aka sugar literally stiffening your skin fibers)

👍 In Functional Medicine, we stabilize
👍 In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we nourish and we build.
👍 In Fitness we pump and move

No paralysis required.

A refreshed face loves a healthy amount of collagen and protein in the system. The face likes daily movement. The face likes the body being in morning sunlight!

The face likes, home cooked, nourishing foods.

AND THE FACE LIKES A GOOD BREAKFAST TO START THE DAY...

But... if that is a challenge, I have a hack!

Adding a blendable, high quality protein powder INTO your coffee, trust me, it's delicious.. is AMAZING!

My routine is this, plus one thin slice of my sourdough bread with olive oil.

Here's a link of the amazing flavored protein powder I use:

My current fave flavor is Gooey Butter Cake

Smooth isn’t the same as healthy.
Radiance is biology.

You can freeze a wrinkle.
Or you can change the trajectory.

If you’re ready to stop chasing surface fixes and start addressing your skin from the inside out — root cause up — this is the work I do.

Through a Functional Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine lens, I look at blood sugar, inflammation, digestion/gut health, stress, Qi, and Blood — because that’s where radiance actually lives.

If you’re done guessing…
If you’re done wasting money on things that don’t last…
If you’re ready to change the course of your skin and your aging —

Quiz Answer: A) Liquid Calories.

Stress absolutely affects blood sugar. It raises cortisol, which raises glucose. Chronic stress absolutely contributes to aging. No argument there.

But here’s the nuance:

Stress raises blood sugar.
Liquid sugar raises blood sugar and directly demands a large insulin response.

That $8 iced drink on an empty stomach? It’s rapidly absorbed glucose + fructose with no fiber, minimal protein, and usually consumed when you’re already stressed and rushing.

So now you’ve got:

• Cortisol from stress
• A glucose surge from the drink
• A sharp insulin spike to handle it

That combination is metabolic chaos.

From a functional medicine lens:
Liquid sugar creates one of the fastest insulin spikes you can generate outside of straight glucose. Repeated spikes = glycation, collagen breakdown, fat storage, and long-term insulin resistance. That’s accelerated aging.

From a Chinese medicine lens:
Cold + sweet + rushed + replacing a real meal = Spleen injury.

Cold constrains digestion.
Sweet in excess creates Dampness.
Skipping meals weakens Qi and Blood.
Chronic stress stagnates Liver Qi, which further disrupts digestion.

Do that daily for years? You don’t just get “a little puffy.” You build Dampness and Phlegm. You deplete Blood. You lose radiance.

So yes — stress matters.
But liquid sugar is a direct insulin event.

And when you stack the two?
That’s when aging speeds up.

Your skin will tell you.

What spikes insulin more?

A) Liquid calories
B) Protein
C) Walking
D) Stress

Before you answer — pause.

Aging isn’t just birthdays. It’s metabolic.

Every time insulin spikes, you accelerate inflammation, collagen breakdown, and fat storage.

Stack that pattern for years and it shows up on your face — dullness, sagging, puffiness, stubborn weight.

Now here’s where it gets interesting.

Stress raises cortisol, which raises blood sugar.
Food choices directly stimulate insulin.
Movement changes insulin sensitivity.

Not all blood sugar elevations are created equal.
Not all insulin responses are created equal.

From a Functional Medicine lens: repeated high insulin signals accelerate aging.

From a TCM lens: chronic stress stagnates Liver Qi, excess sweetness injures the Spleen, and poor metabolic transformation leads to Dampness and weak Blood — and your glow fades.

One of these is the strongest direct insulin trigger.
One is supportive.
One improves sensitivity.
One complicates the picture.

Choose wisely.

Answer tomorrow.

Radiance is a metabolic signal.

Let me say that again: glowing skin isn’t a beauty trick — it’s BIOLOGY...

From a functional medicine lens:
dull skin
breakouts
puffiness
premature aging
.. are often BLOOD SUGAR ISSUES IN DISGUISE.

When your glucose is on a rollercoaster, insulin follows.

That drives inflammation, glycation (which literally stiffens and ages your collagen - we went over this last week...), and stress hormones.

Translation? Your skin loses clarity, bounce, and glow.

Stable blood sugar = lower inflammation = better collagen integrity = real radiance.

Now through a Traditional Chinese Medicine lens: radiance is about Qi and Blood. If your Spleen (your metabolic engine in TCM terms) is weak from too much sugar, stress, or irregular eating, you don’t transform food into usable energy well.

That means poor Blood nourishment. And when Blood is deficient or stagnant, your face shows it — dullness, dryness, pigmentation, that tired look no cream fixes.

Glow isn’t topical. It’s metabolic.

If your skin looks flat, your metabolism is talking.
If your face looks puffy, your blood sugar is talking.
If your glow is gone, your Qi and Blood are asking for support.

Radiance is earned in the kitchen, in your nervous system, and in your daily habits — not at Sephora.

Balance your blood sugar (think protein as a grounding force). Nourish your Blood (think dark leafy greens and whole foods). Protect your collagen (stimulate your muscles, protect your skin from midday sun, eat Vit C with protein).

Your face will tell the truth.

Next Sunday we will discuss easy practical daily steps you can take to help bring out your Blood and Qi into your face... It's never too late to help support your skin vitality from within!

Beauty and longevity go hand in hand. The goal isn’t just looking younger….it’s building a stronger, healthier body from the inside out!

A 2023 study followed sedentary middle-aged women for 16 weeks and found that resistance training was associated with improvements in skin structure, including increased skin thickness. Researchers believe exercise may help support the skin through changes in circulation, muscle activity, and cellular signaling that influence collagen and connective tissue health.

✨ Translation? Building strength may do more than improve muscle tone…it could help support healthier, more resilient skin as you age.

Quiz Answer: B GLYCATION FROM SUGAAH!!!!

If your blood sugar is unstable, your collagen doesn’t stand a chance.

Here’s what spikes actually do:

1️⃣ Sugar binds to collagen and makes it stiff.
2️⃣ Insulin surges increase inflammatory pathways.
3️⃣ Blood sugar crashes elevate cortisol — which breaks down tissue.
4️⃣ Circulation gets compromised.
5️⃣ Your body prioritizes survival over skin repair.

You cannot out‑serum metabolic dysfunction.

From a Functional Medicine lens:
Skin aging is accelerated by internal inflammation, glycation, hormone imbalance, and micronutrient depletion.

If insulin is high, if cortisol is dysregulated, if digestion isn’t absorbing nutrients properly — collagen production slows and breakdown speeds up.

This isn’t cosmetic.
It’s biochemical.

And injections?

They may smooth a line TEMPORARILY.....

But they do not:
• Improve collagen quality
• Improve elasticity
• Improve blood flow (This is a BIG theme in TCM centered skin vitality care)
• Improve skin thickness
• Improve cellular repair

Freezing a muscle is not the same as nourishing tissue.

From a TCM lens:
Skin reflects Blood quality, digestion strength (think Spleen Qi), and circulation.

Deficient Blood → dry, thin skin.
Weak digestion → poor nourishment.
Stagnation → dullness.

Vibrant skin isn’t paralyzed.
It’s FED!

Midlife is not the time to panic‑inject!!!

It’s the time to stabilize your metabolism.

Better late than never.
