Often I get asked

“How do you do it alone, don’t you have siblings?”
“Don’t you need someone helping you?”

I’m so thankful for all my clients and friends who always keep me in mind. A lot of people ask, isn’t it hard and how do you do it alone. The answer is it can be fatiguing but at this point it isn’t the great mountain I had to once climb. Most people are dealing with their own mountains. Walking wasn’t always easy for us, it was something we gradually learned and then it become second nature. That’s how I feel about caretaking, it’s become second nature. My clients and friends comment that I do a lot for my age, but I feel like I could be doing more, I’m grateful for this kind of mindset. I wake up early, I practice yoga, I try to work out hard, I try and push the envelope every day mentally, physically, emotionally, creativity, and spiritually. There’s so much out there to behold, to grasp and to understand and absorbing pain along the way is part of the process.

1. Life happens.
For over a year, my mom was in and out of the hospital. Sometimes I’d spend days there with her and I was the one having to cancel appointments at the last minute. My clients met me with so much grace - they checked in on me, brought me food, and reminded me what kindness looks like. That experience changed how I wanted to run my own business.

2. I trust my clients.
I’m incredibly fortunate that most of my clients are regulars who value my time. If they’re canceling, it’s for good reason.

3. Massage shouldn’t be another source of stress.
If you’re rushing or forcing yourself to make an appointment when life is pulling you elsewhere, you’re already carrying more stress into the session. Healing happens best when you feel fully relaxed.

4. It all works out.
I keep a cancellation list, so if someone cancels, I usually have another client who’s happy to take the spot. And if it’s last minute then I’ll take that time to clean or head home early.

5. just because I don’t charge them doesn’t mean they don’t pay.
plenty of times when clients cancel same day or last minute they will still send either full or half payment of the session as a thank you and acknowledgment of my time. I don’t ask of this but I appreciate my clients for truly valuing my time.

At the end of the day, I’d rather build long-term relationships based on trust than charge someone who’s already having a hard day. Kindness has a way of coming back around. 🩷
