The Skink at the Threshold

I sat down to study and something made me pause.

Instead of opening my laptop, I leaned back, felt the sun on my face and tuned into my breath. I noticed again how surprisingly difficult it is to breathe normally in certain positions. This body is speaking. I’ve been learning to listen.

In that quiet, the strategic mind crept in. I found myself drifting toward external answers ~ seeking frameworks, methods and the right way to grow. The fear whispered: You’ll need to be louder, bigger and more visible.

With my eyes closed, I went deeper.

Rather than continually turning outward for answers, the invitation felt unmistakable: Go inward first.

Then ~ the bump.

I opened my eyes and something solid had collided with my chair leg. A skink. Robust and present. I felt it distinctly. My attention snapped fully back into my body, into now.

From a spiritual perspective, the timing felt like one continuous teaching.

The skink lives close to the earth ~ grounded, subtle and quietly powerful. It appeared precisely as my mind was busy strategizing and called my awareness back into my body. Quiet strength over flashy performance. Rooted impact without needing to be the loudest voice.

Like other lizards, it sheds its skin ~ releasing what no longer fits while keeping the essence intact.

What struck me most was that the reminder to seek Source directly was immediately followed by a physical visitation I could not ignore.

The message felt beautifully simple:

Source first, body second and external forms third.

When hard questions arise ~ in my own heart or in conversation with others ~ the practice is the same: return to breath and body, ask Source and stay with what is actually here.

The little messenger did not arrive with philosophy.

It arrived with a bump I could feel.

And that, too, was part of the teaching.

The Baby Anole & His Friend

This afternoon, in the slender band of sunlight that reaches my porch, a tiny baby Green Anole appeared. He was determined ~ persistent little thing ~ trying his hardest to get through the screen and into the open air.

Just outside, his slightly larger companion was already free, rustling the leaves just enough to be noticed, as if to say, I’m here. I’m waiting.

Green Anoles carry a quiet presence. They shift their colors with mood and temperature and circumstance ~ bright green melting into deeper tones when the moment calls for it.

They remind us that adaptation isn’t merely about surviving. It’s about consciously choosing to change state. And if they lose something along the way ~ a tail, a certainty ~ they regenerate it.

They teach us resilience and the grace of releasing what no longer serves so that life can continue, renewed.

They are patient creatures. Observant. They move only when the moment is right.

It took some time. I moved slowly, simply creating a path. Eventually, I was able to guide the little one out. It felt like a small miracle.

I left him in a safe spot just beyond the porch. Later, as I sat reflecting, he made himself known again ~ hiding briefly, then suddenly rising to leap onto a broad leaf of the plant outside. There he settled, visible and self-contained, a living picture of what it means to take a new position in the open air.

During the time the door was open, a house fly had slipped inside. I calmly guided that one back out, too.

Openings made for what is meant to leave can also let in what does not belong. The work is noticing both, and tending to each with the same steady hand.

Now the little anole rests on his leaf. His friend is somewhere nearby. The fly is outside where it belongs. And I am left with the simple joy of having helped something small and determined find its way to a life that is meant to be lived ~ a quiet reminder that nature is always offering us living mirrors, if we are willing to notice.

“Is the polarization and division that is increasing today going to continue pulling us apart? Or is it ultimately leading us toward reflecting on where this all leads, and acting as an evolutionary pressure back to unity and connection... a new worldview?

That's been the entire thesis of CE, and there is a film that explores the same question.

It's called ILLUSION, and you can watch it right now for FREE, but only for the next couple of days.

It's created by filmmaker Melissa Tittl (director and producer of Source with Joe Dispenza, and the creator of Ancient Aliens).

It asks: what if the way we form beliefs is part of what creates separation in the first place?

Instead of debating different viewpoints, the film brings together scientists, philosophers, consciousness researchers and skeptics and allows their perspectives to sit side by side.

It's a worthwhile watch whether you agree with the metaphysical premise or not, as it explores a more synthesized way of viewing our world vs a dichotomous one.”

🌿 Have you ever found yourself…

• explaining something clearly…
only to feel like the real conversation didn’t begin until after there was already a problem?

• offering to help…
only to become responsible for carrying the entire interaction?

• repeating yourself…
not because you enjoy it, but because the first conversation never seemed to land?

• watching someone apologize for the aftermath…
while wondering why the earlier communication was missed in the first place?

🩵 Have you ever noticed how exhausting it becomes to keep repairing the same pattern instead of building from the last conversation?

If so, here’s a question worth sitting with…

💭 What part of this is actually yours to carry?

Sometimes the most functional shift isn’t finding better words.

Sometimes it’s recognizing the difference between:

✨ communicating clearly

and

✨ carrying another person’s responsibility to integrate what was communicated.

Functional relationships aren’t built on presence alone.

They’re also not built on personality alone.

They require both:

🌿 Presence that nourishes

✨ Personality that delights

🤝 Dependability that creates trust

💟 Warmth that keeps connection alive

Awareness is meaningful.

Integration changes lives.

💡 What’s one area where you’ve stopped carrying what another adult needed to develop for themselves?

I’d love to hear what you’ve learned along your own journey.

One of the hardest parts of overcoming a wound isn’t creating changes to protect your heart.

It’s remembering why you made those changes in the first place.

Time passes.

The intensity fades.

Life gets busy.

And a quiet voice begins whispering:

“Maybe it wasn’t that serious.”

“Maybe I’m overreacting.”

“Maybe enough time has passed.”

Sometimes that voice is wisdom.

Sometimes it’s discomfort looking for relief.

Especially when someone we love has not yet taken ownership of their part.

Parents often find themselves in this space.

Not because they lack compassion.

Because they have an abundance of it.

The challenge is that compassion can slowly drift into bargaining.

We begin negotiating with realities we already worked very hard to accept.

Healing does not require us to stay angry.

Healing does not require us to keep reliving the pain.

Healing does require us to remember the lesson.

A wholesome change is not maintained through resentment.

It’s maintained through clarity.

The goal is not punishment.

The goal is allowing reality to do the teaching that our overfunctioning once prevented.

Practical reflection:

✨ What truth did this experience teach me?

✨ What would it look like to honor that truth without becoming hardened by it?

💡Awareness uncovers the lantern.

💟 Integration keeps it lit.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The grief is not only what happened.
The grief is realizing that if the other person never fully owns it, you may have to carry the memory without carrying the responsibility.
That is often where true integration begins.
Not forgetting.
Not chasing.
Not fixing.
Simply standing beside the lantern and allowing it to remain visible. 🏮
One of the biggest shifts I’ve experienced recently is realizing that another’s awareness and integration are not the same thing.
Awareness says:
“I see the pattern.”
Integration says:
“I consistently do something different.”
It’s all too easy to become stuck in the sole appreciation of awareness… It’s wonderful, though eventually it can also beg the question:
Why do I still feel frustration? 😳
For years, I thought the goal of communication was helping people understand.
Now I think the goal is much simpler:
~ State what is true.
~ State what is needed.
~ Stop carrying what another adult must choose to develop.
💪🏼💜✨
That doesn’t mean becoming cold.
It doesn’t mean withdrawing.
It doesn’t mean abandoning people.
It means allowing responsibility to rest where it belongs.
💡A practical boundary sounds like:
✨“I hear your awareness around that. What I’m still trying to understand is what keeps us from addressing the actual issue in front of us.”✨
~ No rescuing
~ No over explaining
~ No debating
Just clarity 😌
Because healthy relationships aren’t built by endlessly revisiting the same realization.🫠
They’re built through continuity, consistency and follow-through.
💜🙏🏼💜
Two Hearts. Two Intentions.
Not the same thing.
An Integrated Heart says:
“I care.”
* It gives honestly.
* It receives honestly.
* It knows its actual capacity.
* It doesn’t promise what it cannot sustain.
* It gives from a place of choice.
* It respects boundaries.
* It trusts reality.
* It knows that connection grows with reciprocity, not performance.
* It brings warmth without losing itself.
An Over-Functioning Heart says:
“I must care more than everyone else.”
* It gives from a place of pressure.
* It confuses helping with obligation.
* It ties self-worth to how much it does for others.
* It risks resentment, burnout, and losing itself.
Big hearts aren’t the problem.
Uncalibrated hearts are.
Kindness is beautiful.
Overextending is not.
An Integrated Heart
* It gives from a place of choice.
* It receives from a place of honesty.
* It lets affection match the actual relationship.
* It trusts reality.
* It knows its actual capacity.
* It doesn’t promise what it cannot sustain.
* It allows relationships to be what they are.
* It knows that connection grows through reciprocity, not performance.
* It brings warmth without losing itself.
An Over-Functioning Heart
* It gives from a place of pressure.
* It receives from a place of guilt or obligation.
* It offers intimacy that exceeds the actual relationship.
* It confuses helping with obligation.
* It overestimates its capacity.
* It promises more than it can sustain.
* It tries to make relationships into something they are not.
* It mistakes performance for connection.
* It risks resentment, burnout, and losing itself.
Care deeply. Love freely. Give wisely. Stay rooted in truth.
You can have the biggest heart in the world and still honor what’s real.
“I can disappoint someone and still remain safe, worthy and connected.”
Which is why:
clarity without aggression,
structure without punishment
and boundaries without emotional warfare
…matter so much.
💞 What a powerful reminder of what happens when community gathers with intention.
We explored the balance of our shared human needs — practicing simple, practical energy exercises to shift out of fight, flight and freeze… into clarity, connection and choice.
💞 Awareness with compassion.
Compassion with boundaries.
Integration right in the middle.
From energizing practices to a transformational sound immersion, we leaned into the collaboration of heart and mind — cultivating our energy, directing it with intention, and extending it outward in the name of love.
💞 Grateful doesn’t quite cover it.
Huge thank you to Alyssa and The Yoga & Pilates Co-op of Hilton Head for holding such beautiful space for our community. And thank you to each of you who brought your presence, honesty and willingness to connect.
A Healing Place, HHI is honored to gather with you. 🙏🏼
Let’s absolutely do it again!!
“You’re not healed by someone else’s power.
You’re activated by someone who helps you see what’s already inside you.
The light in the image, that’s not the healer giving something to you.
It’s your own intelligence being awakened, your fascia remembering, your nervous system opening,
your body returning to its original design.
Healing isn’t transferred.
It’s triggered from within.
The Kingdom of Heaven is within you.
Your body holds the light.
Your awareness turns it on.
When you finally allow yourself to receive,
to feel,
to release, your whole system begins to rise.
This is what real healing looks like.
I dedicated my life to support others find their light and remember that they are love and whole.
