Happy Inception Day to us.
Six years ago we, as a family, made the choice to start Get Tanked. We chose a name and filed with the state on this day 2020.
For those of you new to us, let me tell you how we evolved into The Healing Lounge at Get Tanked Float Center.
Steven was deployed in 2019 to Kunduz, Afghanistan. When he returned, like many soldiers, he was not "normal". He had night terrors, was always on edge, could not get back into normal life. In an interview last year with WTOC, Steven said something that really helped my Momma heart understand what his struggles were. He said, "when I returned from deployment the only time I felt normal or safe was when I was wearing my uniform. During deployment you did not leave your room without the uniform." While he was deployed, there were a few times we would be talking and I could hear the mortar's or whatever was being thrown at our soldiers. So when he said that in the interview, it clicked in my head. Going from daily onslaughts to home was not a simple plane ride home.
A battle buddy recommend Steven try floating. This was January 2020. Steven did 90 minutes in a true deprivation tank (no lights no music) three times a week for five weeks. By the middle of February we could see a change in him. He will tell you, it took 7 floats before he didn't have a panic attack in the float. Once we saw how the float helped him, we knew we wanted to bring this to Fort Stewart/Hunter FMWR.
The last six years have been a journey. We started with a couples sized, user friendly with lights and sound, float cabin to now we are expanding into the space next to us. We have an infrared sauna, massage therapy, Soundwave therapy, Dr. Cooke and Advanced Chiropractic. We will be adding a few more modalities when this expansion is done.
We have worked with groups like Wounded Warriors, 22 Until None and Fight The War Within. We are trying to find a way to help soldiers past and present while keeping the lights on. The path will show it's self eventually.
We have met amazing people, lost a few close friends from Soldiers in Recovery Unit, made an impact in our community.
So Thank you to our community for allowing us to provide alternative modalities to help you relax, recover, maintain and thrive.
