Three years in a row. 😭🙌🏻

I don’t think this will ever be something I just expect or get used to. Every person who sits in my chair means something to me. Whether it’s your first piercing, your 15th, you’re nervous as hell 😂, or you’ve been coming to me for years… you trusted me to be part of it.

And honestly, y’all probably don’t realize how much you give back to me too. Especially lately. Life has handed me some pretty heavy moments, and there have definitely been days where just showing up took a little more out of me than usual. Then one of y’all sits in my chair, we start talking, laughing, probably oversharing 😂 and for a little while, everything else gets a little quieter.

I’ve always wanted my little corner of the shop to be a safe space where you can come in, be completely yourself, feel comfortable, laugh, cry if you need to, be nervous, cuss a little 😂 and leave a little shinier than you came in. What I don’t think y’all realize is that space has done the same for me more times than I can count. 🥹🖤

You’ve kept me wanting to continue doing what I do. You come back, recommend me, send your friends and family to me, support me and somehow keep voting for me year after year.

So these three frames on the wall? They mean a whole lot more than just an award.

Well…here I am again, getting to announce for the THIRD year in a row that I was voted Best of Liberty! 🥹💎

I truly wish I could attend the banquet and celebrate alongside all of the other winners, but life has been doing that thing called life lately lol. This time, I had to do what I’m always reminding everyone else to do and choose myself first.

But I could not let this moment pass without thanking every single one of you who chose me.

Thank you for trusting me, supporting me, referring your friends and family, laughing with me, sharing those moments that have just about had me in tears, and even letting me talk you through the nerves with, “If you throw up, I throw up—and then we both go home.” 😂

Every piercing, every referral, every laugh, every conversation and every bit of support has helped me get here—not once, not twice, but THREE years in a row.

I never take that for granted. I am so incredibly grateful for every person who has sat in my chair and continued to support me along the way.

Threadless, internally threaded, externally threaded… what’s the difference, and does it really matter? 👀

It does.

This is one of those things most clients probably never think about because once your jewelry is in, you don’t see the post. But the part you don’t see matters just as much as the pretty part you do. 💎

💜 Threadless: No threads at all. The jewelry end uses a small pin that fits securely inside the smooth post.

💜 Internally threaded: The threads are inside the post. The outside that passes through your piercing stays smooth.

🚫 Externally threaded: The threads are on the outside of the post, meaning those exposed threads pass through the piercing when jewelry is inserted or removed. That’s unnecessary irritation and trauma I don’t want to put your piercing through, especially when it’s fresh or still healing.

I use threadless and internally threaded jewelry for my clients. Both allow a smooth post to pass through the piercing without exposed threading dragging through the tissue.

And while we’re here… “surgical steel” doesn’t automatically mean quality jewelry. The actual material, how the jewelry is manufactured, the threading, AND the proper gauge and size for your anatomy all matter. (That’s being saved for another days educational rant )

Pretty jewelry is obviously the fun part. 😂 But what’s underneath it matters too.

Know what you’re being pierced with. Ask questions. You have every right to know what’s going into your body. 💜

The part you DON’T see matters too.

Throwback to 2012… 😂🫠

Long before I ever became a professional piercer, this was me. I had just gotten my upper side lip ( aka Monroe piercing for those whom know it as that ) because I’d convinced myself I’d always wanted one.

That lasted… maybe a few days. 😅 My job didn’t allow facial piercings, so I tried wearing a retainer. I lost it almost immediately, and looking back, it wasn’t what I’d imagined. It didn’t look bad, but it just wasn’t me.

Since then I’ve had a handful of piercings come and go. Every one of them was part of the journey.

Funny enough, I had no idea back then that one day (13yrs ago) I’d become a professional piercer. As I’ve grown in this industry, so have my standards. The quality of jewelry, the education I’ve received, and the way we approach piercing today have all shaped how I care for my clients.

Looking back at this photo makes me smile. It reminds me that we all start somewhere, and sometimes the experiences we don’t keep are the ones that teach us the most. 🫶🏻Besides… if you can’t cringe at your past self every now and then, are you really growing? 😉💜

⚠️ Not every Navel ( Belly Button) is meant to be pierced. ( I did not perform this piercing)

This client came to me after having their navel pierced for the third time by the same piercer. Unfortunately, the previous two had already rejected, and the scarring speaks for itself.

After examining their anatomy, I explained that this isn’t actually a traditional navel piercing. Their anatomy has a collapsed navel, meaning there isn’t enough of a shelf to properly support one. This is functioning much more like a surface piercing, which carries a much higher risk of migration and rejection.

Could it be pierced? Sure.

Would I have pierced it? No.

The original jewelry was externally threaded, not implant grade titanium, and too short for a healing piercing. They were also told a longer bar would be “too heavy.” That’s simply not how healing jewelry works. Fresh piercings need room for swelling.

I changed the jewelry to an appropriately sized implant grade titanium curved barbell with 5 mm flat ends, went over proper aftercare, and explained that because of their anatomy and previous scar tissue, there’s still a chance it may not heal successfully.

A little reminder:

In Georgia, initial piercing jewelry is required to meet minimum implant-grade standards. Implant grade titanium is my jewelry of choice, and initial jewelry should be internally threaded or threadless for the best chance at healing.

The biggest takeaway?

Not every anatomy is meant for every piercing, and that’s okay. I’d much rather tell someone “no” than have them spend money over and over while collecting scars.

Anatomy always wins.

☀️ This isn’t a “don’t get pierced in the summer” post.

I’ve been piercing here in South Georgia for 13 years, and every summer I notice a few of the same things pop up. That’s why I wanted to share this.

Whether it’s certain medications (including some antidepressants or blood pressure medications), anxiety, not eating beforehand, or simply not drinking enough water, all of those things, combined with this South Georgia heat, can affect how your body responds while you’re getting pierced.

And trust me…I have to be mindful of some of those things myself. 💜

Thankfully, most of the time it’s nothing that can’t be helped with a little preparation beforehand. 💜

💎 Before you get pierced, take a minute to swipe through. These are a few things I want every client to know to help make your experience as safe and comfortable as possible.

Remember… there is absolutely no shame in needing a break, some water, a snack, or even rescheduling if your body isn’t feeling its best. Your safety will always come before completing a piercing.

Well.... I won't be in the shop today
Instead, enjoy this photo of a tiny beetle from our walk Saturday evening.

At the time, we were just out there minding our business watching this little guy go about his evening. Turns out the only bug we should've been paying attention to was the one making its way through the family.

My grandson started feeling sick over the weekend, now it looks like my whole house is sharing it as I woke up feeling less than fabulous myself.

So while I'm taking a day to rest, basically hopefully sleep it off. I apologize for inconvenience.

Reached into the sink for a dish and found a knife instead. Not my best system check.

Just one finger on my dominant hand was cut, but it’s sore and I do rely on it heavily for piercing work, so I need to be mindful with it.

Since my work involves constant handwashing, glove changes, and detailed precision throughout the day, I’m taking today as a precaution so it can calm down properly and so I can continue working safely and comfortably for my clients.

I’ll reassess in the morning and hopefully be back to normal.

And yes… the irony of a piercer getting taken out by dish duty is not lost on me. 😌💜
