Resharing this because, thanks to the powers that be, my poor mom has hit another unexpected financial situation.
She reapplied with SSA to claim Dad’s SSDI benefits (her only source of income), and they told her that his first backpay installment that went in right after he passed away was HERS free and clear, because it was already in their account from 1/8/24. She had not touched it and it remained in the account until now. She just got word from her bank that not only did SSA take that backpay money back after they said it was hers, they also appear to have taken back the $255 death benefit as well leaving her account nearly empty.
His benefits will not start back until at least 30-45 days from date of filing, which was last week. The donations to date from the GFM were used to cover the up front costs of the funeral service, leaving her in a real financial hardship and less than $50 to her name while she waits for all the ducks and squirrels to line back up regarding SSDI.
If you can share, or donate, that would be awesome. I know she greatly appreciates everyone who’s been there for her, whether it’s a call, prayer, or help financially or even just help with advice on how to navigate all of this.
