"With her striking, boldly patterned formline, Alison Bremner draws viewers into important political discussions. Her recent piece, 'Church and State,' currently displayed at the American Museum of Natural History’s Grounded by Our Roots exhibition, features a red formline puppet master dangling nine black-robed mannequins from an opulent cross. Bremner’s artist statement shares frustrations on the U.S. Supreme Court’s ongoing attack on tribal sovereignty. The work highlights Bremner’s precise linework, acquired through her apprenticeship, and her taste for visual collage, incorporating textures and colors outside of historical Tlingit artwork."

Read more about Alison Bremner's (Tlingit) art and life in a profile written by FAAM's Alaska Native Art Writing Fellow, Kariel Galbraith (Tlingit), for our Winter 2025 issue.
