The women who came before me understood that caring for ourselves was never separate from caring for the land, our families, or one another.

They gathered.
They tended.
They remembered.

And they passed what they knew forward hand to hand, generation to generation, through everything that tried to break the chain.

Niawen was born from that same understanding.

That caring for your skin can be more than something you do to change what you see in the mirror.

My grandmother never used the word balance. She did not need to. She just lived it.
She knew which plants to gather, and when. She knew the land gives, and you give back. She knew that caring for your skin was not vanity. It was gratitude. A way of tending the body that carries you.
I did not learn skincare from a textbook first. My first teaching was in the garden. Everything Niawen is began there.

Day twelve.

She almost didn't write to me.

She told me she almost kept it to herself because it felt too small to matter.

But then she said,

"My skin just feels different."

Softer when she woke.

That tight, thirsty feeling was gone.

There was a quiet glow she hadn't seen in a long time.

Those are the messages I read twice.
