Cardinal Pharmacy, LLC is the only retail pharmacy located in Hoisington, Kansas (population 2,723 – July 2011 Census Bureau). Hoisington is located 10 miles north of Great Bend. This independently -owned pharmacy is staffed by 2 pharmacists and 2 certified pharmacy technicians. Given the rural atmosphere, the staff knows most of their patients/customers on a personal basis. They also serve most o

f the residents at the local assisted living/memory care facility as well as several people within the surrounding community. The pharmacy is physically located directly across the street from Clara Barton Hospital and various physician clinics which provide additional opportunities for interaction with other health care staff including the hospital pharmacist. Cardinal Pharmacy which opened their doors for business on July 1, 2010, offers a full-line of prescription as well as over-the-counter medications. This modern facility also includes a private counseling room which provides even more opportunities for effective patient counseling and interaction. This relaxed setting allows the patient to address additional questions and/or concerns that would not normally be addressed at the standard pharmacy counter. Likewise, this setting also benefits the pharmacist and student by allowing additional time to provide more in-depth patient counseling if needed as well as to address other patient needs..

Gov. Laura Kelly signed SB20, the Kansas Consumer Prescription Protection and Accountability Act, into law today! Kansas becomes one of a handful of states to regulate Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), the middlemen responsible for negotiating drug prices between manufacturers, pharmacies, and insurers, as well as setting reimbursement rates for prescription medications.
