Due to the large number of calls and messages we’ve received tonight checking on our crews, we wanted to provide a quick update.

Earlier today (5/15), Hughes County EMS experienced an ambulance fire while crews were returning to station. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

No patients were onboard the ambulance at the time of the incident, and all crew members are safe with no reported injuries.

Hughes County EMS has sufficient resources in service, and normal operations will continue as necessary without interruption to emergency response coverage.

We would like to thank Horntown Fire Department, the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for their assistance on scene.

Another helicopter kind of day around here! Big thanks to Air Evac Lifeteam 135 for flying in this morning and helping get our patient to a higher level of care. ACCESS is so important in rural communities like ours where distance and time matter.

Also, thank you again to Wetumka Fire Department for the assistance on scene today. We appreciate the teamwork and support every time. 🚁🚑🚒
