June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, and I was honored to stand with Sage Crossing at the Apex Town Council Meeting this week - as the town issued an official proclamation recognizing this important month.

A proclamation is more than a statement — it’s a public commitment from local leadership to acknowledge the impact of dementia, elevate brain health, and support the individuals and families who are living with cognitive change every day. Having the Town of Apex, Mayor Jacques Gilbert, and the Apex Town Council lend their voice to this cause sends a powerful message about what our community values.

I’m grateful to stand alongside organizations like Sage Crossing and individuals who are working so hard to build a more dementia‑inclusive community.

Together, we are reducing stigma, expanding understanding, and ensuring that no one has to navigate brain change alone.

Supporting someone with dementia through everyday tasks like dressing, bathing, or meals can feel overwhelming — and it’s not because you’re doing anything wrong. These moments get harder as the brain changes, and small shifts in approach can make a big difference.

This month’s Dementia Dialogues breaks down simple, brain‑friendly ways to reduce stress and preserve independence.

Caregiver burnout doesn’t always look like falling apart.

Sometimes it looks like pushing through.

Holding everything together.

Telling yourself, “I’m fine… I just need to get through today.”

But your body and brain always keep the score.

In my latest blog, I talk about the quieter signs of burnout — the ones caregivers often overlook — and simple ways to begin easing the load before it becomes too heavy.

If you’ve been feeling stretched thin lately, this might speak to you.

I’m honored to share that I’ve been invited to join the Hallmark Homecare team of Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill (led by Tim Leow) for this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s in October.

This cause is close to my heart and deeply connected to the work I do every day with families navigating dementia.

If you’d like to sponsor my walk, your support truly makes a difference — for research, for caregivers, and for the people living with Alzheimer’s.

Caregivers hear this all the time:
“Let me know if you need anything.”

But when you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, or just trying to get through the day, figuring out what to ask for can feel like one more task you don’t have the energy for.

Here’s the thing:
Most family and friends truly want to help — they just don’t always know how.

In my latest blog, I share a simple way to make it easier for people to step in with meaningful support… and easier for you to receive it.

If burnout has been creeping in, this small shift can make a big difference.
