I found some wild sarsaparilla today while foraging. Wild sarsaparilla is a member of ginseng family. This is a woody vine that grows prostrate on the forest floor disguised as a group of small herbaceous plants. Early in spring, when its leaves are not yet fully developed, it produces small greenish-white flowers in spherical clusters, each on a separate short stalk beneath the compound leaf. Pollinated by bees, flowers ripen into fleshy blue-black berries in mid-summer. The woody horizontal stem of wild sarsaparilla sometimes has substituted for sassafras in herbal medicine and the making of home-made root beer. In modern herbal medicine the plant is used as a primary remedy for Lyme disease.Today, sarsaparilla functions as an adaptogen often substitute for ginseng.

I had a moth mullein to spring up in my back yard.Normally the flowers are yellow when I come across them. This one is very beautiful .Moth mullein (Verbascum blattaria) is a biennial plant traditionally used as a natural respiratory remedy for coughs and congestion. Historically utilized like common mullein, its leaves are brewed into teas or syrups to help soothe airways, while its extracts are known to act as natural insect and cockroach repellents. Moth mullein is closely related to common mullein.While they share a genus, they have different physical appearances.
