The FDA has expanded the approval of Tzield (teplizumab), a medication that can delay the onset of type 1 diabetes (T1D).
Previously, the age cutoff for Tzield was 8 and older. With the FDA's new guidance, children as young as 1 year old who are in stage 2 T1D (early, pre-symptomatic phase) can benefit from this powerful and safe immunotherapy that helps the immune system stop attacking the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. It can delay the need for insulin by months or even years
The DRI contributed to the clinical development of Tzield as a participating study site, supporting in advancing prevention-focused therapies in type 1 diabetes.
Today, the DRI continues this work by following patients receiving Tzield in real-world clinical settings and through ongoing research initiatives.
Your support plays a critical role in enabling the research infrastructure, clinical expertise, and long-term studies that make advances like this possible.

Out of the Kitchen – New York was a smashing success. More than 150 guests gathered at the Metropolitan Pavilion to enjoy a luxurious cocktail hour followed by an engaging evening emceed by PIX's meteorologist Chris Cimino. Throughout the night, talented chefs dazzled diners with their exceptional dishes, creating a spirited and memorable culinary experience.

In the end, the competition was fierce and the final vote was close, but Chef Peter Botros of The Stone House at Clove Lakes took home the title of DRIF's Top Chef. With nearly $200,000 raised to support the life-changing research of the Diabetes Research Institute, we are deeply grateful to everyone who attended, bid on auction items, and contributed from afar.

The cocktail hour is where Out of the Kitchen – New York begins—a chance to meet your fellow attendees, awaken your palate with hors d’oeuvres, and enjoy signature cocktails. The best parties start with tequila, and we're excited to announce Dano's Dangerous Tequila will be offering a duo of exceptional mixed drinks at the event.

You can't make a margarita without tequila, but you've never tasted one quite like this. Dano's Dangerous pineapple jalapeno tequila adds wild flavor notes to the classic cocktail, with spice and sweetness intermingling to jazz up the drink.

A tequila martini? That's the kind of daring we love to see. Sample an espresso martini featuring Dano's Dangerous coffee reposado for a full-bodied cocktail that gives you a little pep in your step.

Whichever cocktail you choose, we'll see you on April 20 at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Learn more and get your tickets at https://ootkny26.givesmart.com/ or text OOTKNY26 to 76278.
