Stimming (self-stimulatory behavior) can look like hand flapping, rocking, humming, spinning objects, or using fidget toys and for many children, it serves an important purpose.
Harmless stimming can help kids:
đź’™ regulate big emotions
đź’™ process sensory input
đź’™ improve focus
đź’™ express joy or excitement
đź’™ feel calm and safe
At My Kid Therapy Center, we don’t teach children to suppress harmless stims just because they look “different.”
If a behavior isn’t causing harm to the child or others, it may actually be an important coping tool — one that helps them navigate the world more comfortably.
Our goal in ABA therapy isn’t to erase individuality.
It’s to support each child in ways that are safe, respectful, and meaningful to them.
Different doesn’t mean wrong. Sometimes it means regulated. 💙
