Earlier this summer, HPMG President and Medical Director John Yang, MD, spent a night aboard a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier – and came away with a deeper understanding of the people and teamwork behind its mission. ⚓

The visit was part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet Distinguished Visitor Overnight Embark Program during Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) international maritime exercises held in and around the Hawaiian Islands.

While observing flight operations, Dr. Yang saw how a strong safety culture, clear communication, and well-defined roles help the crew work together in a demanding environment.

With military members and their families forming an integral part of our Hawaii community, the experience offered a valuable glimpse into what it takes to carry out this complex work – and an opportunity to recognize those who serve our country.

Our physicians and internal medicine residents – in partnership with health education and nursing teams – are helping bring Ke Kahua ʻAiola to life, supporting patients as they work to prevent pre-diabetes from progressing to type 2 diabetes.

This past Saturday, the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) 'ohana came together for a special H.O.M.E. dinner – good food, great company, and a wonderful cause.

The Hawaii H.O.M.E. Project brings medical students, physicians, and community volunteers together to provide free care directly to people who face barriers to accessing health services. Every ticket purchased helped provide free medical, dental, and social services to our houseless neighbors on O‘ahu. 🩺 🦷 🤝

So yes, there was dinner, there were laughs, there was plenty of aloha, and there was care made possible by community.

Mahalo to everyone who joined, supported H.O.M.E., and helped turn a seat at the table into a helping hand in our community. ❤️
