A night rooted in aloha and community 🌊
Hawaiʻi Pacific Health Bone & Joint Centers was proud to sponsor Duke’s Night 2026 with the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation, celebrating Hawaiʻi’s next generation of scholar-athletes who embody excellence, leadership, and aloha.
The evening also honored an extraordinary act of courage. Spencer Allen received the Duke Lifesaver Award, recognizing his role in rescuing a distressed boater offshore near Hanauma Bay. After a vessel was swamped by a large wave, Spencer rode nearly a mile offshore to locate one of the missing men and safely bring him back to shore.
He is pictured here with Dara Shelton, director of the HPH Bone & Joint Centers. Spencer is also a patient at Straub Benioff Medical Center, where orthopedic surgeon Dr. Ed Weldon helped him overcome years of shoulder and elbow pain from paddling and kayaking. Today, Spencer is an ILH kayaking champion, competes internationally, and is pursuing a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
Mahalo to Dr. Weldon and our HPH Bone & Joint Centers team for supporting Hawaiʻi’s athletes and ocean communities. 💙
