One Heart Worldwide

One Heart Worldwide OHW is an INGO working to save the lives & promote the well-being of mothers & their babies in๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ต Since 2010, our programs have benefited 310,000 pregnancies.

No woman should have to worry about her own life as she prepares to give birth. One Heart Worldwide understands the needs of pregnant women and their newborn infants. For over a decade, our commitment has been to ensure that no Nepali woman or their newborn dies from lack of access to quality MNH services. We have developed a community-centric model that works alongside the government and local co

mmunities to improve maternal and neonatal health (MNH) services across underserved areas of rural Nepal. We work in partnership with local municipalities and communities to strengthen their MNH infrastructure, upgrade government health facilities, and improve the skills and expertise of healthcare workers at every level of the local health system. We are supported by engaged international and local partners who provide annual financial contributions to improve access to quality healthcare services for mothers and their newborns. Municipal governments and local communities co-invest at a rate of 10% of our total program expenditures in Nepal, building a shared ecosystem of sustainability by further augmenting international donor commitments. To reduce maternal and newborn mortality, One Heart Worldwide aims to improve access to quality MNH care for โ…“ of all pregnancies in Nepal by 2030, focusing on the 36 most underserved rural districts. To date, our programs have reached 21 out of these 36 districts. Our success is rooted in a firm understanding of how to sustainably integrate MNH into local culture and communities in complex and remote operating environments that are prone to natural disasters. One Heart Worldwide is a responsive, resilient, and dependable partner in Nepal. We served Nepali women and their families during the 2015 earthquake recovery, and currently provide emergency response to government partners and rural Nepali communities alike to address the needs of pregnant women and newborn infants throughout the global pandemic. By the end of 2024, we will be active in 21 districts and we will have successfully exited from 15 districts. We will be providing access to quality MNH care to a total of 900,000 pregnancies since inception, increasing the annual number of pregnant women with access to quality MNH care from 80,000/year in 2020 to 200,000/year by 2024 (80% of our goal for Nepal).

One Heart Worldwide (OHW) was honored to participate in the Development Dialogue organized by the Association of International NGOs in Nepal - AIN, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss the future of Nepal's health sector during this critical moment of development transition.

Our Co-CEO, Surya Bhatta, represented AIN members working in health, sharing the plenary with Hon. Dr. Toshima Karki, Member of Parliament; Prof. Dr. Manohar Pradhan, Chief Expert Advisor at the Ministry of Health and Food Safety; and Jan Dirksen, Deputy Head of Development Cooperation at the German Embassy Kathmandu.

The conversation reinforced what we know to be true: strong partnerships between government, development partners, civil society, and communities are essential to protecting Nepal's hard-earned health gains and building a resilient, equitable health system for the future.

We are grateful to AIN for creating this important platform for dialogue and collective action, and we remain committed to working alongside all stakeholders to ensure quality maternal, newborn, and child healthcare reaches every corner of Nepal.

Join us TODAY in Lalitpur for a high-level dialogue on Nepal's health future.

As Nepal navigates its transition away from LDC status, the question isn't just what's been achieved; it's how to protect and build on those gains.

Happy Motherโ€™s Day from all of us at One Heart Worldwide.

Today, we celebrate mothers and all those who have loved, cared for, and shaped us along the way.

However this day finds you, we are holding space for the many ways motherhood is experienced.

For us, Mother's Day is also a reminder of the care every mother deserves. Your support can help more mothers in Nepal access quality care throughout pregnancy, creating healthy beginnings that can shape the future of an entire family.

In Madhesh, improving maternal healthcare starts long before a mother reaches a facility.

It starts with trust in the people and systems meant to support her.

By strengthening relationships between communities and the health system, more mothers are beginning to access care with confidence.

Healthy beginnings can shape the future of an entire family. This Motherโ€™s Day, your support can help more mothers in Nepal access the care they need throughout pregnancy.

What happens when a health facility is nearby, but care is still out of reach?
For many mothers in Madhesh, this is their reality.

In Chepkat Tole, community-based efforts supported by One Heart Worldwide and implemented with Ratauli Yuwa Club (RYC) are beginning to shift health-seeking behavior.

Ranjuโ€™s story reflects how trust and local partnerships can influence care during pregnancy.

Too many women still die from preventable causes during pregnancy and childbirth. Skilled care before, during, and after birth can save lives โ€” and midwives are best placed to provide it. Achieving universal coverage of midwife-delivered interventions by 2035 could avert 67% of these deaths.

But the world is short one million midwives. We need urgent action to grow, support, and sustain the global midwifery workforce.

This , sign the global petition calling on policymakers for

One million more midwives.
Four million lives saved.

In Karnali Province, access to care can be unpredictable.

Earlier this year in Humla, a young woman went into labor late at night while trying to reach a health facility. In freezing temperatures, she gave birth on the roadside.

With immediate support from local partners, including One Heart Worldwide, she and her newborn were safely transported to the district hospital. Both are now healthy and thriving.

This story is not uncommon in places where distance and conditions make it difficult to reach care in time.

This video shares more from our team and partners working in Karnali Province, narrated by our Cluster Lead, Rabin Joshi.

Your support today helps more mothers receive the care they need when it matters most.

Just $32 will provide a mother with access to quality care.

In Nepal, where a mother lives shapes her journey to care.

In 2026, our work is focused in Karnali and Madhesh Provinces, where we are supporting maternal and newborn care across nearly every district. This builds on more than a decade of work across 20 completed districts that are now locally led.

In Karnali, distance and terrain make access difficult.
In Madhesh, facilities may be closer, but quality and trust still shape whether women seek care.

As we continue this work, we are approaching an important milestone: reaching 2 million mothers and newborns with improved access to care.

Over the next week, weโ€™ll share what this looks like across both provinces.
