💭 "Boy, I know when Ms. So-and-So started taking morphine… she died right after that."

A lot of folks have had a thought something like this.

And, to be honest, it makes complete sense. 🤔

It's a little like hearing the doorbell ring right as dinner hits the table 🍽️

Was it the plate of hot food coming in touching down on the table that summoned the guest?

Or when you see someone open an umbrella ☂️

And rain pouring down just a moment later.

Did the umbrella signal the rain?

Of course not.

Someone simply noticed the dark clouds—possibly even felt the air change… and they got ready for what was to come.

The two things happened close together.

And when administering pain-reducing medications and a loss come close together, it's only natural for our minds to connect them. Almost everyone does.

But there’s more to it.

Morphine, and other pain-relieving medications, in hospice care isn't given to hasten death. Often, it's given so your loved one can breathe easier and rest, instead of fighting for every breath.

Watching someone we love gasp for air is one of the hardest things a family can experience. Morphine — used correctly… methodically, delivered with care — eases that struggle.
It brings relief, not harm.

And caregivers witness that literal ‘second wind’ in their loved one.

The morphine myth is actually one we’ve included (Myth #4) in a free guide we created, "Isn't Hospice Just Another Way To Say Death Sentence?" — where we break down 6 of the most common (and most damaging) misconceptions holding Western Kentucky families back from experiencing RELIEF.

She was there.

Of course she was. She raised you.

She showed up for all the hard moments. 🫂

Funny how tables seem to turn with many things in life.

Finding yourself caring for mom, being one of those table-turn seasons.

If you're the one pouring yourself out to care for mom— managing her medications, losing sleep, watching her health slowly decline — and you're quietly wondering if you can keep doing this alone...

This is for you.

Maybe you haven't even said the word out loud yet:

Hospice.

Because saying it feels like giving up on her. Like you'd be letting her down after everything she gave you.

We want you to hear something important…

Watch this short message from Kelly, our Executive Director, and give yourself permission to just... learn a little more. That's all.
