When a school authorizes an employee to carry a firearm around students, how was psychological suitability considered?
Texas schools implementing Guardian or similar armed-personnel programs make decisions with significant responsibility attached to them.
Training, licensing, and background checks provide important information—but they do not answer every question about psychological suitability for an armed role in a school environment.
A structured Guardian Psychological Suitability Evaluation can add another layer of due diligence by examining factors relevant to armed responsibility, including:
• Emotional regulation
• Judgment and decision-making
• Impulse control
• Stress tolerance
• Anger and hostility
• Interpersonal stability
• Significant psychopathology
• Response validity and defensiveness
The goal is not to predict future violence or guarantee safety. It is to provide school leaders with professionally gathered psychological information to support a thoughtful, documented selection process.
I provide Guardian psychological evaluations for Texas schools through Relate Psychological Services.
