Although you cannot control asthma, there are many ways to manage asthma, especially for those who are suffering with frequent asthma attacks. But remember that improvements take time and that there is no instant cure
Here are 5 useful tips on how to manage and alleviate asthma symptoms:
Protect yourself from viruses - Viruses cause more flareups and inflammation. This can be done by increasing your vitamin C intake, washing hands frequently and also increasing your iron intake (This helps absorb vitamin C to strengthen your immune system!)
Reduce salty foods - Studies show that high salt snacks such as crisps, burgers, chips and hotdogs increase the likelihood of developing asthma and increases asthma symptoms
Drink warm beverages and coffee - This provides some fast relief during asthma attacks. Hot drinks often help to clear the airways and reduce constriction in the airways
Pinpoint your triggers! - This is one of the most important steps to managing asthma symptoms. Because coming into contact with triggers is what increases asthma attacks. Not sure on what your triggers are? Allergy tests are a great way to get started because once you are aware of your triggers, you can avoid them and reduce asthma attacks
Up your home cleaning routine - This may sound cliche or like an obvious tip but a lot of particles which cause lung irritation and asthma attacks are unseen. This is why it’s vital to clean up as much as possible! For instance, mopping up after hoovering ensures that more particles are removed. But remember to be careful of strong cleaners as they too can trigger asthma attacks!
