FEMA declared September as National Preparedness Month.

When preparing for unexpected disruptions, don't forget to include medical waste management in your facility's emergency planning.

Reviewing emergency contacts, contingency procedures, storage capacity, and service needs ahead of time can help your team respond safely and keep operations moving when normal routines are disrupted.

Meet Pablo Morales, our Plant Lead based in Port St. Lucie!

Pablo plays an important role in our warehouse operations, helping pick up and treat regulated medical waste and doing his part to support the medical community.

His favorite part of working at Trilogy is the positive environment and the respectful colleagues who have become like family. What motivates him every day? His family and doing his job to the best of his ability.

Pablo is especially proud of keeping the warehouse organized, and he describes Trilogy in one word: Safe. His motto? "Customer first."

Outside of work, Pablo enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, swimming, fishing, and playing soccer. A fun fact about Pablo: he’s originally from Guatemala and is now a proud U.S. citizen.

We’re proud to have Pablo on the Trilogy team!

One of the most common misconceptions in healthcare is that anything used during patient care belongs in a red bag. In reality, proper segregation is essential for safety, compliance, and cost-effective waste management.

Items commonly disposed of in red bags include:
• Blood-soaked gauze and dressings
• Contaminated PPE
• Suction tubing
• Other materials saturated with blood or potentially infectious materials

Correct segregation helps protect employees, reduces unnecessary regulated waste, and supports OSHA compliance. When everyone knows what belongs in a red bag, your entire facility benefits.

An inspection doesn't have to be stressful.

Many citations stem from simple issues that can be prevented with the right processes in place, including overfilled sharps containers, improper waste segregation, missing labels, or inconsistent employee training.

Maintaining compliance protects your staff, your patients, and your organization. By staying proactive year-round, your facility will be better prepared whenever an inspection occurs.

Trilogy MedWaste partners with healthcare providers to support safe, compliant medical waste management every step of the way.

What happens after your medical waste is collected?

It's a question we hear often.

Medical waste treatment varies based on the type of waste and applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Depending on the waste stream, treatment methods may include:

• Autoclaving (steam sterilization)
• Incineration

Each method is designed to render regulated medical waste safe for final disposal while protecting public health and the environment.

Proper treatment is just one part of a much larger process focused on safety, compliance, and environmental responsibility.

Hurricane season serves as an important reminder that emergency preparedness extends beyond patient care—it also includes medical waste management.

Now is a great time to review your facility's emergency plan by asking:
• Are waste storage areas secure?
• Are containers protected from flooding or storm damage?
• Do staff know emergency procedures?
• Is your medical waste contingency plan up to date?

Determine if your current service schedules and container counts are sufficient to prevent excess regulated medical waste from accumulating ahead of severe weather.

Trilogy MedWaste is committed to helping healthcare providers remain prepared year-round.

Back-to-school season often means an increase in student physicals, immunizations, and routine healthcare visits.

Now is a great time to prepare by reviewing:

- Medical waste pickup schedules
- Staff training
- Waste storage capacity
- Service schedules to help avoid excess waste on-site

Planning ahead helps healthcare facilities stay organized, compliant, and ready for increased patient volumes as the school year begins.
