Faculty, residents, and trainees from the Scott Department of Urology recently participated in the CUReS Symposium at Houston Methodist, presenting research spanning men's health, infertility, trauma, and veteran health outcomes.

Among the department's highlights, Dr. Shane Kronstedt (PGY-3) received two Best Abstract Awards for his presentations:

🔹 Genitourinary Trauma in Modern Conflict: A Comparative Analysis of Adult and Pediatric Injury Patterns From the Department of Defense Trauma Registry

🔹 Age-Specific Reference Ranges for Total Testosterone in Males: A Systematic Review and Pooled Analysis of 261,985 Men

The department also presented additional research addressing the financial and psychosocial impacts of infertility, reproductive outcomes among veterans, and the effects of environmental and combat-related exposures on men's health.

Congratulations to Dr. Kronstedt and all of our faculty, residents, fellows, and collaborators who represented the Scott Department of Urology and contributed to advancing the field through innovative research.

Dr. Jeffrey Jones, represented veterans’ and aerospace medicine interests during a briefing with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Aviation Cancer Examination Study (ACES) Committee on July 21.

Jones served as the chair of the American Urological Association's Legislative Affairs Committee Veterans Affairs Working Group, which endorsed the ACES legislation as it was being developed, and subsequently the resulting Aviator Cancer Examination Study (ACES) Act was funded by the Veterans Health Administration Secretary Douglas Collins to conduct an independent review of the types of exposures experienced by fixed-wing aircraft aircrew and examine scientific evidence on whether those exposures may be linked to cancer. Jones’ presentation to the ACES Committee focused on potential environmental risk factors to aircraft and spacecraft crewmembers, and potential aeromedical impacts of the flight environment, including the development of genitourinary malignancies.
