Sue's husband, Glenn Paxman founded Paxman on the back of this experience and to this day we remain a close family business. Today marks a very special birthday for everyone here at Paxman, as Sue Paxman would have turned 70.

Sue is the person at the heart of our story and we are incredibly proud to be continuing her legacy by supporting patients experiencing cancer across the globe.

Sue's son, our CEO, Richard Paxman said this:
"Mum would never have imagined that her experience all those years ago would lead to helping so many people around the world today. Although we miss her every day, seeing her legacy continue through your dedication and the patients we support makes me immensely proud."

When Natalie was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer, keeping her hair was important to her, and after using scalp cooling throughout her treatment she retained around 90% of her hair!

What’s actually happening beneath the surface when you use scalp cooling?

There are four key biological mechanisms that help protect hair follicles during chemotherapy.

1️⃣ Reduced drug uptake: cooling slows how chemotherapy drugs enter cells, meaning less reaches the hair follicle.
2️⃣ Reduced cell division: hair follicle cells divide more slowly, making them less of a target for chemotherapy.
3️⃣ Vasoconstriction: blood vessels in the scalp constrict, reducing blood flow and limiting the amount of drug delivered to the follicles.
4️⃣ Reduced metabolic activity: cellular activity decreases, slowing processes that can contribute to damage.

Together, these mechanisms help protect hair follicles, reduce hair loss, and support regrowth.

Important progress happening in California👇

AB 1682 has passed the California Senate and received final concurrence from the Assembly!

We're incredibly proud to have supported AB 1682 throughout the legislative process, providing testimony and letters of support at key stages as the bill advanced through the Legislature. This bill represents a significant step forward for cancer patients across California, expanding access to scalp cooling for those going through chemotherapy.

To everyone involved in helping move this bill forward, thank you! Including all the patient advocates, clinical leaders and oncology societies who shared their stories and worked tirelessly to help with bill progress 🫶

We also want to shout out to Assemblymember Gregg Hart, his staff and Dr. Fred Kass of UCLA for their work in getting AB 1682 to this point.

When Amara was diagnosed with breast cancer, the thought of losing her hair was frightening. But through scalp cooling, she was able to maintain a sense of normalcy during treatment and keep much of her hair throughout chemotherapy.
