Living Hope Wheelchair Association The Mission of Living Hope is to affirm the dignity and quality and improve the quality of live

Living Hope is a nonprofit organization that serves people with mobility disabilities so they can lead full and productive lives. Our group was founded by people with spinal cord injuries, the majority of our members are not entitled to benefits, lack medical insurance, and do not have a stable source of income. We provide services to our members and engage in community advocacy to achieve our go

als.Living Hope is a community based non-profit organization serving people with spinal cord injuries as well as with other mobility related disabilities so that they may lead full and productive lives. Suffering a catastrophic spinal cord injury has a brutal impact on a person’s life. If this person is an immigrant or a low-wage worker in the United States, then he or she is in an extremely vulnerable situation. During our existence as an organization we have been able to help each other first to survive the depression that comes after the accident, then to survive the problems that come with not having resources to buy medical supplies and equipment. We have learned to improve our quality of life through hope and solidarity, sharing what we have and organizing to get what we need.

Hurricane season is a period when we must stay especially alert and prepared for possible strong storms, intense winds, and heavy rainfall. In regions such as the Gulf Coast, it is essential to have a family emergency plan, keep basic supplies on hand such as water, non-perishable food, flashlights, and batteries, and stay informed through official sources.

Preparation saves lives: securing your home, knowing evacuation routes, and being ready to act early can make a difference. Being prepared is not optional—it is a responsibility for our safety and that of our community.

New License Indicator for Texans with Disabilities
Texas drivers who are deaf or hard of hearing can now choose to have a special indicator on their driver's licenses to let law enforcement know about disabilities or health conditions that might impact communication. Previously, people who qualified for the program could choose to have a "communication impediment" indicator displayed on their Texas-issued driver's licenses or ID cards. The latest expansion adds a new "deaf or hard of hearing" option.

During our community meeting for the month of May, we addressed a very important topic: mental health. During this meeting, community members had the opportunity to share their thoughts, experiences, and reflections in an environment of respect and mutual support.

This space was created to strengthen family and community connections, promote emotional well-being, and provide a safe environment where every person can feel heard, valued, and supported
