Here's what you need to know:
โถ Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item.
โถ If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
โถ Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
โถ A healthcare provider is not required to issue a Good Faith Estimate if the appointment or services are scheduled less than 3 business days in advance. In this case, the patient would have to request a Good Faith Estimate.
Please Note: Because the good faith estimate is based on information known at the time your provider or facility creates the estimate, it wonโt include any unknown or unexpected costs that may be added during your treatment. However, If this happens, federal law allows you to dispute your bill.
