Houston Deaf Network

Houston Deaf Network Houston Deaf Network brings together Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Hearing individuals across Greater Houston.

Find interpreting services, community organizations, education programs, and professional resources — all focused on accessibility and connection. About Houston Deaf Network

Houston Deaf Network began with DPHH (Deaf Professional Happy Hour), inspired by DPHH in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1995 by a group of NTID alumni, the event quickly grew into a hub for connection and community. Following in

their footsteps, we launched DPHH Houston in 2003, creating a space for local Deaf professionals to network and thrive. Over time, we realized our community needed more than just a happy hour. Our vision expanded to include all walks of life—from kids to adults, professionals to families. That’s why Houston Deaf Network was created: to serve as a central hub for resources, connections, and opportunities within the Houston Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. Today, we aim to bring together information, education, social events, entertainment, career opportunities, and more—all in one place. From articles and resources to activities like DPHH, ASL socials, Deaf Chat Coffee, Deaf Paws, and Deaf sports, we strive to keep our community connected and growing. If you’d like to get involved and contribute, please reach out, and we’ll connect with you as soon as possible. Together, we can continue building a stronger, more connected Deaf community in Houston.

School is back in session! What's one communication tip you'd give to teachers, classmates, parents, or school staff working with Deaf or hard-of-hearing students?

Maybe it's something simple like:
• Make sure the student can see you before communicating
• Don't talk while facing away
• Use captions whenever possible
• Ask what communication method works best
• Don't be afraid to learn a few signs

Share what we've learned and help make communication easier for everyone.

Here's a question for the community: What's one thing you wish you had known earlier?

Maybe it was something about being Deaf or hard of hearing, learning ASL, advocating for yourself, navigating the hearing world, or simply finding your people. It could be something serious, something helpful, or even something you learned the hard way.

What would you tell your younger self?

• Is it good lighting?
• An interpreter?
• Captions?
• A teacher who makes eye contact?
