Closing out 2025 with an incredible honor - I was the recipient of the Dr. Ed Roberson Award, chosen by my fellow physicians for my contributions to HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest. In a fun twist, COVID catch-up means that the 2024 award was also given out this year, to my brilliant colleague and dear friend, Dr. Elizabeth Fair. And, my partner and mentor (and Dr. Ed Award winner in 2021) .philipleggett received his 40 year service award. 🏆😷👩🏻‍⚕️

If you’ve had surgery with me at the hospital, chances are, your family has been guided to the waiting room by this amazing woman. She may have even tracked them down in the cafeteria for me after your surgery. 🤣 Congratulations, Clina, on your Heart & Sole award! Demoing the new electronic medical record for my physician colleagues today in the newly renovated Physicians Dining Room. A little project to occupy my spare time 😂 😷🤦🏻‍♀️that is out of my usual wheelhouse, but I’m enjoying the process and looking forward to our Go-Live date of October 9th!

People under age 50 have been appearing increasingly at doctors’ offices in the past few decades, complaining of blood in their stool, abdominal trouble or unexplained weight loss.

The diagnosis: colorectal cancer. And by that time, it was often too late.

But that paradigm is finally starting to shift, at least for patients in their 40s.

There has been a jump in people aged 45 to 49 getting screened for colorectal cancer, after recent medical guidelines lowered the screening age for those at average risk.

As a result, the disease is being caught sooner, when it is more curable and the treatment is less grueling, according to new research from the American Cancer Society.
