“What’s one food that instantly takes you back home?” 🤎
I want you to think about this for a second…
What's one food that the moment you smell it or taste it, you're instantly taken back to your childhood?
For me, there are so many.
Fresh tortillas. Toasted Maiz or cacao beans. Roasted Poblano peppers . Even a warm cup of chamomile tea with honey.
And the older I get, the more I realize…
Sometimes it's not even the food that we're missing.
It's everything that happened around it.
It's walking into the kitchen and smelling dinner cooking.
It's hearing music in the background.
It's watching your mom or grandmother move around the kitchen cooking without measuring anything.
It's the conversations.
The laughter.
The feeling of knowing that you belonged there.
And now that I'm a mother, I think about something else…
One day, the meals I'm making today might become the memories my children come back to.
That's one of the reasons I created Return to the Hearth.
On September 6, we're gathering around maize, masa, motherhood, family memory, and the traditions we want to carry forward.
We'll work with masa, prepare maize & cacao drinks together, share stories, and close our gathering with a cacao circle.
But before you go, answer this for me:
What food takes YOU back home—and who made it?
Tell me in the comments.
And if you're in the Houston or Katy area and you'd like to join us September 6 at Moon Girl Boutique comment "HEARTH" and I'll personally send you the details.
I'm opening only 13 seats around the table. Maybe one of them is yours. 🤎
