Iβm worried about the pandemic going on right now... β£β£β£β£β£β£β£
β£β£β£β£β£β£β£
Not Covid-19. The pandemic of absolute ignorance that has been allowed to escalate to the state itβs in. We should be doing better as a wholeβ£β£β£
β£β£β£β£β£β£β£
This {new strain} of coronavirus, a very common virus that causes respiratory illness is novel and the media is portraying it in such a way that really creates mass hysteria and doesnβt provide all the facts while distorting the ones we do have. I donβt like how weβre creating panic for an illness that has less of a death toll than the Flu, an illness that CAN be avoided with the same precautions as we SHOULD take with influenza, such as: β£β£β£β£β£β£β£

Wash. Your. Hands. Avoid touching your face. Avoid crowded places when youβre immunocompromised or sick. Donβt wear a mask unless youβre already sick. Itβs not necessary if youβre not sick, youβre adding to the problem, stop it πβ£β£β£β£β£β£β£

The concern over a novel virus is warranted to an extent. We donβt have a vaccine, valid, but that doesnβt make the illness non-treatable. It is most dangerous for the immunocompromised population, but when any respiratory illness progresses and reaches the pneumonia stage it can be deadly to anyone if not properly treated but treatable nonetheless! We focus on the death tolls but wonβt talk about the cases of people who have been treated for the virus and πΎπ βπππΌ β£β£β£β£β£β£β£

Lastly, letβs address the ignorance towards our treatment of humans. If you watch my stories, youβd know I triaged a patient who was worried about having contracted the Covid-19 from having s*x with an asian person. WOWOW. Thatβs xenophobia at its worst. Asian people are not the problem, theyβre the victims. We canβt beat up Asians on the streets, ostracize them, or dehumanize them over this. At the same time, I understand not everyone is educated in healthcare and donβt always know where to find accurate information so they live in fear from stories on news channels, Facebook, Youtube, and social media. I want this to be a call to everyone: educate your patients, educate your family, educate on where to find accurate info and to treat humans like humans. That is all π
