The Doctor of Nursing Practice Program-Nurse Anesthesia prepares nurse anesthetists for the highest level of evidenced-based clinical practice as well as for leadership roles such as healthcare executives, policy experts, and educators. The DNP Program offers academic opportunities for both registered nurses and certified registered nurse anesthetists. The RN to CRNA track provides a comprehensive

graduate learning experience for registered nurses in the practice of administering all forms of anesthesia. The didactic phase of the program consists of coursework in the basic and clinical sciences, healthcare delivery and policy, translational research, leadership and management. The clinical phase provides extensive clinical education in the provision of general, regional, and local anesthesia. Upon completion of the degree requirements, graduates are eligible to take the National Certification Examination administered by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists. The CRNA to DNP track is designed for master’s-prepared CRNAs who wish to obtain a practice doctorate. CRNAs are eligible for advanced standing in the program and complete a curriculum of advanced nursing practice core courses. After graduation, these doctorally-educated nurse anesthetists are prepared to assume positions as clinical leaders and educators. With the expansion of scientific knowledge and the changing healthcare landscape, the doctoral level of education is fundamental to preparing clinical anesthesia practitioners and future leaders in the nursing profession. The Doctor of Nursing Practice Program-Nurse Anesthesia is committed to training future generations of high caliber nurse anesthetists who will make distinctive professional contributions and be the vision for tomorrow’s anesthesia practice.

Baylor graduates doing great things. 💙
DNP Alumni Eric Nix and Sabrina Schroeder coauthored an article for the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology Answers explaining what parents and caregivers can expect when their child undergoes surgery. We love seeing our graduates use their expertise to educate, advocate, and advance the CRNA profession.
