2. Clean regularly: Soak at least once or twice a week in a partial denture cleaner, or brush it clean with mild soap and a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove debris
3. Avoid High Temperatures: Don’t leave mouthguard in direct sunlight or hot water; it can warp and lose shape.
4. Store Safely: Store mouthguard in a perforated container to allow air circulation and prevent bacterial growth.
5. Inspect Regularly: Check for signs of wear and tear. If it becomes damaged or doesn’t fit properly, replace it.

For children and teens who play sports, a properly-fitted mouthguard is an essential part of their equipment.

This iconic (and frankly a bit scary-looking) appliance was commonplace in schools (not to mention TV and movies).

Headgear is very effective for certain malocclusions (bad bites) but orthodontists tend to favor newer technology that achieves the same results.

Even if you do have headgear, you’d mostly wear it at night and after school.
