I used to tell clients "just eat healthy fats" like that was specific enough. It's not. Not anymore, at least.
New research is splitting fat into camps, and your thyroid hormones (and, well, your entire hormonal axis) has opinions.
Saturated fat keeps showing up next to higher TSH in the studies. Nobody's cracked exactly why. Inflammation is one theory. Another is that people eating more saturated fat are usually skimping on other stuff their thyroid needs too. Correlation, not proof.
Omega-3s are the one part of this that actually holds up. In people with autoimmune thyroid issues, more omega-3s tends to mean lower TSH and fewer antibodies attacking the thyroid.
Trans fat doesn't get a debate. It's just bad, for your metabolism, your inflammation levels, and your thyroid.
So the next time "eat healthy fats" is recommended, there is more to the story!
