Celiac disease, gluten sensitivity, and wheat allergy are often used interchangeably… but they are not the same.

Celiac disease
→ autoimmune disease
→ gluten triggers immune-mediated intestinal damage

Wheat allergy
→ allergic response
→ may involve hives, swelling, or respiratory symptoms

Non-celiac gluten sensitivity
→ symptoms occur with gluten exposure
→ no confirmed autoimmune intestinal damage

Symptoms can overlap, which is why testing and proper diagnosis matter.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is removing gluten too early before testing is completed, which can make diagnosis more difficult.

This is part of my celiac education series.

Follow for more on diagnosis, labs, biopsy, gluten-free living, and gut healing.

If gluten makes you feel bad, that does not automatically mean you have celiac disease.

Celiac disease is not a food allergy or gluten intolerance. It is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the small intestine after exposure to gluten.

That damage may contribute to symptoms such as:

• bloating
• diarrhea or constipation
• fatigue
• iron deficiency
• headaches
• skin concerns
• anxiety
• brain fog
• nutrient deficiencies

And not everyone presents the same way.

As a Doctor of Clinical Nutrition, a celiac patient myself, and a mom of a celiac patient, I know firsthand how confusing diagnosis and gluten-free living can feel.

This reel is part of my new celiac education series, where we will cover symptoms, diagnosis, labs, biopsy, gluten-free living, hidden gluten, dining out, healing, and what to do if you still have symptoms after going gluten-free.

Follow along and send this to someone trying to understand celiac disease better.

If you are struggling with gut symptoms or navigating a new diagnosis and want professional support, I’d love to help.

If you’re struggling with low energy, mood changes, or frequent illness, one nutrient that often gets overlooked is vitamin B6.

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) plays an important role in how your body metabolizes proteins, carbohydrates, and fats, helping convert the food you eat into usable energy. But its role goes far beyond metabolism.

This vitamin is also essential for brain and nervous system function, supporting the production of neurotransmitters that influence mood, cognition, and focus. In addition, vitamin B6 helps regulate homocysteine levels, which is one factor linked to cardiovascular health, and contributes to immune system function by supporting the production of antibodies.

Because vitamin B6 is water-soluble, your body does not store large amounts of it. That means consistent intake through whole foods is important for maintaining optimal levels.

Some of the best food sources include:
• Chicken breast
• Salmon
• Chickpeas
• Potatoes
• Bananas
• Avocados

These foods provide nutrients that support energy production, brain health, and immune resilience.

Small improvements in nutrient intake can make a meaningful difference in how your body functions day to day.

You’re not crazy. And it’s probably not “just stress.” If you’ve been dealing with bloating, fatigue, brain fog, hormone symptoms, constipation, inflammation, or weight changes despite trying to eat healthy… There may be deeper root causes driving your symptoms.

Inside this FREE masterclass, I’m teaching you:
• how gut health impacts hormones
• why symptoms overlap
• when functional lab testing may actually help
• and what a realistic, sustainable healing plan can look like

This is not another crash diet or wellness trend.

It’s a practical, evidence-based approach designed to help you stop guessing and start understanding your body.

That morning drink trend? Let’s talk about it.

Lemon water is fine.
Apple cider vinegar can help some.
Coffee isn’t evil.

But if your gut is inflamed, acidic drinks on an empty stomach may worsen symptoms.

The question isn’t “Is it healthy?”
It’s “Is it appropriate for you?”

Individualization matters.

Save this before trying the next trend. Follow for personalized gut education.

Hi, I’m Tara — a Doctor of Clinical Nutrition, educator, functional nutrition practitioner, business owner, mom, gardener, animal lover, and honestly… someone still figuring out how to juggle all the things while trying to build a meaningful life and career.

I'm here to share practical, evidence-based nutrition and wellness education in a way that actually feels realistic for busy people. Most of my work focuses on nutrigenomics, gut health, hormones, metabolism, autoimmune conditions, behavior change, and helping people get to the root cause of what’s going on instead of just masking symptoms.

A little about me:
• Doctor of Clinical Nutrition (DCN)
• Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS)
• BCNS Supervisor for CNS candidates (nutrition interns)
• Instructor with the Integrative Testing School (ITS)
• Founder of Sky Therapeutics
• Co-founder of Sky Farmacy

But outside of work, I’m also:
• a mom juggling sports schedules and entrepreneurship
• helping my mom launch her own business
• raising chickens, gardening, and caring for a small zoo of animals
• constantly doing a million new projects behind the scenes
• trying to create a life that feels healthy, grounded, and aligned, not just productive

I realized recently that people don’t only want education. They also want to see the behind-the-scenes of what it actually looks like to build a business, raise kids, manage a home, teach, mentor interns, continue learning, and somehow still make time for yourself.

So tell me, what do you want to see more of here?
More nutrition education?
Behind-the-scenes of clinic/business life?
Meal prep and realistic wellness routines?
Gardening/chickens/homestead content?
Motherhood + balancing it all?
Functional lab testing?
Day-in-the-life content?

I’d genuinely love to know.

This summer, Sky Therapeutics is returning to the Houston Food Bank, and I’m hoping to get even more of our patients, families, students, friends, and kids involved this year.

Last summer, our team served more than 116 volunteer hours together and received the Bronze Award. This year, our goal is to reach more than 200 hours — not because we care about awards, but because the need across Houston and surrounding communities continues to grow.

The Houston Food Bank supports nearly one million people across an 18-county area in southeast Texas. Families are trying to stretch groceries another week. Parents are balancing rent, childcare, and medical bills. Seniors, veterans, and children who deserve reliable access to food and basic human dignity.

As a nutrition professional, this mission means a lot to me because health starts long before someone walks into my office. Before we talk about gut health, hormones, inflammation, supplements, or prevention, people deserve access to food.

Our volunteer dates are:

• June 8, 2026
• July 6, 2026
• August 3, 2026

8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Houston Food Bank – Portwall Warehouse

One of my favorite parts of last year was seeing parents, kids, students, and patients all working side by side packing food boxes together. It was such a powerful reminder that community still matters and small actions really do add up.

If you’ve been looking for a way to give back this summer, we would love to have you join us. Bring your spouse, your kids, your coworkers, your friends, or come by yourself.

Let’s show up for our community together this summer.
