Even after a hysterectomy, it’s still recommended to see your gynecologist for your follow-up appointments after the surgery – obviously – as well as for routine visits depending on whether your cervix or ovaries were removed.

LUNA OBGYN and LUNA Therapeutics will be closed on Friday, June 19, in honor of Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated day of remembrance for the end of slavery in the United States.

June 19 marks the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans finally received word of their freedom in Galveston, Texas.

Our offices will return to normal business hours on Monday, June 22. We’ll see you then!

Our patients coming to LUNA Therapeutics on June 23 or June 29 should be aware of the entrance closures the Woman's Hospital of Texas will be enacting during the FIFA World Cup Games. ⚽

LUNA Therapeutics will be open during the games, but the entrances nearest to us will be closed. Please follow the map on the second slide for guidance on the entrances that WILL be open on Fannin and on Old Spanish Trail.

Additionally, patients have informed us that the traffic is very bad around the stadium in the afternoon on game days. Please account for that when heading to your appointment. 😄

There are no medical restrictions that prevent a teenager from getting an IUD as birth control; BUT, in Texas, minors do need parental consent to get ANY form of birth control. 💊

IUDs may be the right fit for you if you need a longer-lasting form of protection from pregnancy, prefer an easier method, want lighter periods and less menstrual cramping, or want more privacy about your choice of birth control.

It is important to note that it can be painful to have the IUD inserted, you could have spotting between periods, and the copper IUD in particular can increase menstrual cramps and make your period longer and heavier.

Urinary incontinence is a very common condition — especially for women as they enter and experience menopause. 💁🏻

Recognizing World Continence Week, the LUNA team joins other providers, organizations, and community members in raising awareness from June 15-21. 🌍

One of the themes of this year’s campaign is menopause and incontinence, as urinary incontinence can worsen during menopause because of declining levels of estrogen.

The World Federation for Incontinence and Pelvic Problems is behind this annual initiative to raise awareness of bladder and bowel issues, chronic pelvic pain, and other debilitating conditions.

One in three women experiences bladder weakness in their lifetime, and it’s important to know that you are not alone in continence issues you may be facing. 🫶🏼

Postpartum depression is a mental health condition that affects at least 1 in 7 birthing people, and Zuranolone, also known as Zurzuvae, is a relatively new treatment that “could be a game-changer” for people with PPD.

Zurzuvae is the first and only oral drug that was designed to treat postpartum depression, according to the Maternal Mental Health Leadership Alliance.
