A new study from NYU found that sickle cell disease (SCD) care varies across New York State, with major differences in hospital stays, costs, and access to specialized care. While New York City sees the highest number of hospitalizations, other regions experienced longer hospital stays and greater challenges accessing specialized treatment.

Researchers say these differences highlight the need for improved access to specialists, stronger transitions from pediatric to adult care, and more equitable healthcare for individuals living with sickle cell disease.
