Sulfur burps on a GLP-1? 🥚💨 You’re not alone.
That rotten-egg taste/smell is usually related to slower stomach emptying caused by GLP-1 medications. Food stays in the stomach longer, which can increase fermentation and the production of sulfur-containing gas.
What can help:
• 🍽️ Eat smaller, more frequent meals
• 🥩 Avoid very large or high-fat meals
• 🥚 Temporarily cut back on foods that trigger sulfur burps for you (eggs, cruciferous vegetables, etc.)
• 💧 Stay well hydrated
• 🚶♀️ Take a gentle walk after meals
• 💊 If symptoms are persistent, talk to your prescriber—your dose or titration schedule may need adjustment
Pro tip: Sulfur burps can be a sign that your GI system is struggling with the current dose. More medication isn’t always better—sometimes slower titration is the answer.
⚠️ If you have severe/persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, inability to keep fluids down, fever, or significant abdominal swelling, seek medical evaluation.
Save this for your next GLP-1 day! 💚
