Every room at Saunawelt began with an experience.
Our Cool Mist Room traces back to a visit to Sky Lagoon Iceland in Iceland, where one step in its seven-part ritual is Súld — an open-air cold mist experience described as “the touch of Icelandic winds and crisp, cool air.”
Stepping from the heat into that fine mist beneath the Icelandic sky was unexpected and incredibly refreshing. It became one of the experiences I knew I wanted to somehow bring home to Saunawelt.
Recreating the open-air setting wasn’t possible. Our designer Kim Lewis Designs translated the feeling instead: bring the sky inside. The room is wrapped in soft blue tile to evoke that sense of openness, with Italian-made misters creating a fine veil of cool water.
The Cool Mist Room is part of the cooling stage of the sauna cycle — a gentler alternative to a cold plunge that helps bring the body down from the heat before rest or another round.
A little Iceland, interpreted for Houston.
